Mays Leprechaun snapped up by GOA Syndicate

Mays Leprechaun will be racing under the GOA syndicate banner for 2012 after being snapped up within hours of going on the website last night. I'd like to thank the syndicate for their third purchase in 2012. They are building a very strong team for the coming year.

Please remember you need to react quick to get some of these dogs I post on blog and sales page. All our dogs are available to everyone, so he you would like to get involved please keep checking back.

Trainers Championship Trials - Perry Barr

We went to Perry Barr this morning to give a number of the team a work out ahead of the Trainers Championship. It was a great pipe opener for a number of them as it was their first serious work out of 2012. The trial times were Peggys Style 28.61, Maireads Hawk 28.72, Ballymac Ace 16.10, Brittons Empire 16.11, Freds Champ 16.26, Bandicoot Fionn 16.29 and Barntick Cove 16.45.

I'm at an advanced stage of negations to bring in another potential Derby dog. More news to follow.

Scott the true gent to be missed

Paul Scott has decided to give the sport a break for a while after suffering the loss of Pots and Pans and then Rooneys Lad on Saturday. Our great sport can be very cruel at times and I'm personally gutted to lose not just a great owner but also a true gentleman.

Pauls remaining dog with me Daughter of Peg is now for sale. She is a great open race bitch and will make a great brood after racing. Please call me if interested.

Five accepted for Ladbrokes Monmore Puppy Derby

We had five accepted for the £12,500 Category One Ladbrokes Puppy Derby which starts on Thursday. The competition has attracted any the countries leading pups and this year there is an added interest as Owen McKenna will be travelling over from Ireland.

Vedfield Solid will clash with Sharp Bullet in Heat 3, Fifis Legend takes on Sharp Bid in Heat 4 and Sids Champ will take his chance in Heat 6. Good Luck to all connections.

Tonight we are heading Romford and Nottingham hoping to record a couple of winners.

Leprechaun heading to Westview

Highly exciting young puppy Sion Black made a hugely encouraging trial debut for us at Monmore on Friday. Racing over the 480m for the 1st time and having her first look at the track she stopped the clock in a very impressive time of 28.40. We wish her new owner Mick Giles plenty of success.

We think like her sister GOA Girl ex Colmyaro Rebel once Sion Black goes over the 6 bends she is going to develop in to a top notch open race stayer. Both these two young pups were bought by our 'main man' in Ireland. He has just completed the deal on another new young pup for us.

Hot on the heels of our Derby dog being revealed we would like to introduce a fantastic unraced young puppy to Westview Kennels.

Mays Leprechaun is a black bitch, Sept 2010, with a fantastic pedigree (Droopys Vieri x Perrys Lace) who produced such greats as Like a Shot (Irish Derby Winner), Blackstone Gene (sire of Rayvin Giovanni), Sids Dreams dam Dromana Dainty is a 1/2 sister to Perrys Lace.

Mays Leprechaun has only been in the boxes 3 times in her life (due to owners sickness, in hospital for over 6 weeks). Last Tuesday she showed fantastic all round pace for one so young. Having the 1st 525 yards of her life she was racing against a pup called Valentia Tango(Kinloch brae x Magpie Tango). Once the traps opened "Mays" & "Valentia" went neck and neck till the 1/2 way mark, where this young puppy went into overdrive. Flying home she won by 3 lengths in a quite fantastic time of 29.29.

The dog that finished 2nd Valentia Tango money could not buy him at the minute. He is a 1/2 brother to Mays Harvestmoon who was sold for £10,000 after he done 29.10 for the 525 yards at Waterford. He has gone on to win in 29.90 at Nottingham Rated 129 On G.Data. & 27.77 at Yarmouth (Open race)

All Mays Leprechaun can do is improve. She will easily go near breaking the 29.00 in her next trial alone. She is anything but the finished article. Once she gets more trials and is allowed to develop she will go on to win numerous open races for us at Westview Kennels.

Please contact me for more details on this highly exciting puppy, she is very realistically priced for a puppy of her breeding and ability. £3,500

All devastated over the loss of Rooney

It's always difficult any day you lose a dog, but to lose one with sheer potential such as Rooneys Lad is tragic. Every one is truly devastated by the loss and I really do feel for the dogs connections.

It's so typical of our sport to give us a roller coaster week. Question of Sport on Thursday, Sids Dream breaking clock on Friday, Smart Bid getting caught on line in Trafalgar Puppy Final and then Rooneys Lad breaking his leg at Monmore.

In the Puppy Derby Trial Stakes Vedfield Solid made a solid debut when he finished second in 28.72. This run should bring him on plenty. Fifis Legend pushed his case for one of the Puppy Derby favourites as he ran out a 3 1/2 length winner in 28.07

Daughter of Peg went toe to toe with Brave Display in the Bitches race. It was a cracking race but unfortunately Peg was caught close home to go down in 28.42

Exchange Student was our only graded winner when she took the A2 in 28.65 by an impressive five lengths.

Bid denied in Trafalgar

Smart Bid was denied by the narrowest margin in last night Trafalgar Puppy Cup Final. Bid was smartly away and lead all the way until the shadow of the line when Guinness Dusty got up by a head to take the race in 28.67. This lad is still very much on the upward curve and I'm sure they is plenty of races to win with him.

It's a Question of Sport for Drumcove Lad

Well we had some day yesterday as Steve Masters had the responsibility yesterday of taking Drumcove Lad on the set of the BBC's Question Of Sport.

The BBC asked me if Drumcove Lad could appear on the show as a mystery guest. I obviously jumped at the chance as this is great publicity for the kennel and also for greyhound racing as a whole.

The only other live animal to appear on this great sport quiz was the great late Red Rum. This popular sports quiz is shown all over the world by millions on people.

It was a great honour to have the dog I train as the first greyhound ever to appear on the show.
Matt Dawson the star of the show was blind folded and had to Name the Sport when running his hands over Drumcove lad.

We won't spoil it and tell you what he said! Sue Barker announced once the blind fold was removed  "Drumcove Lad, 2011 Sprinter of the year, trained by Chris Allsopp."

The owners of Drumcove Lad are James Edwards 50% share, Will Adamson 25% and Matt Garnett 25%. They were all over the moon with their dog getting on the show and will all receive
some mementos of this fantastic day.

Monmore Round Up

Gagsys Classic was our only winner last night at Monmore when he took advantage of a drop down from Open Racing to take the A2 in 28.37 by 3 3/4 lengths.

Moving on to day Paidis Peata recorded her first win when she took the afternoons A6 in 28.98. Lady Ballyglass made it two wins on the bounce when she didn't let the step up to A3 stop her winning again in 28.80. Direct Angie took the A8 in 29.18 by 1/2 lengths. Angie is a great bitch to have on the strength at Monmore and always tries the best for her owners. Corrig Blue took a very competitive S2 by three lengths in 38.31. This was his fifth career win with us. Our fifth and final winner was Daleroad Canter who took the A5 in 28.69

Sids breaks Swindon Track Record in Arc

We had an amazing start to proceedings in the Ladbrokes Mobile Arc over 480m at Swindon today when Sids Dream set a new track record in the opening quarter-final.
Champ trapped well along with veteran 2010 champion Farloe Titan and that duo were the only contenders to enjoy clear runs as there was a general coming together at the first bend in behind. Sids Dream opened up in style along the back stretch and strode home more than three lengths to the good of a strongly rallying favourite Jazz Apollo in recording 28.20  (+30), one spot better than the record set by Slick Santiago on Monday.
Sadly Boherna Bridge was eliminated from Heat 4.
Draw for Friday's semis - first: 1 Mark My Words, 2 King Jaffa, 3 Jazz Apollo, 4 Farloe Titan, 5 Longwood Fantasy (m), 6 Mays Gold (w).
Second: 1 Droopys Loner, 2 Ballymac Cryan, 3 Bowtime Joey, 4 Granard Bound (m), 5 Bit View Micko (m),
6 Sids Dream (w).

He winked at me Syndicate snap up Cabra Fly pup

The "He winked at me Syndicate" have agreed a deal with me to purchase a Ninja Jamie x Cabra Fly pup. The syndicate is made up a cracking bunch of lads including Paul Turnstill, Ben Turnstill, Martyn Smith and Dave Smith. I'd like to wish the Luton based syndicate all the best of luck and remember boys you are welcome any kennels any time.

GOA Syndicate purchase Highview Dusty

I'm pleased to announce that Highview Dusty was sold within hours of going on the website last night. Lets hope Dusty gives the syndicate plenty of great nights out and hopefully a few trophies. The GOA Syndicate are new to the kennel and have also purchased Colmyaro Rebel who will now be called GOA Girl. It's always great to welcome new owners to the kennel and I'm looking forward to meeting all the syndicate at the kennels. I'd like to thank the syndicate for their purchase, it great to have another dog with serious potential in the kennel.

Derby Dog Revealed

I've just posted our Derby Dog for 2011 on our Sale page. As always it will be a case of first come first served. Many thanks for your continued support.

Monday 20 February 2012

Syndicate sign Canyon Rock

The Will Adamson syndicate consisting of Len Timmins, Keith Inston, Spud Platts and of course Will, have today purchased Canyon Rock. Rock is a full brother to New Boss who the syndicate have already purchased. I'm sure both dogs will give the syndicate a great experience. Good luck lad and thank you for your support.

Lady records 4th win

Lady Ballyglass recorded her 4th career win this afternoon when she took todays A4 in 28.73. She was quickly away from traps and then hung on well. This bitch is still for sale on the sale page and would give any new owner plenty of fun.

Garnett makes moves in transfer market

Matt Garnett has today secured a 1/4 share in Champion Sprinter Drumcove Lad and also one of the Ninja Jamie x Cabra Fly pups. Drumcove Lad will be a serious contender for major honours during 2012 and I'd like to wish Matt every success with his purchases and thank him for his continued support.

Dream and Bridge progress in Arc

We had return home from Swindon with two Arc quarter finalists after Maireads Hawk was eliminated in todays first round after suffering serious traffic problems on the first bend. Sids Dream ran a storming race to finish second in Heat 2 in 28.55 whilst Boherna Bridge took the final qualifying spot in Heat 6 battling on well in the closing stages.

Draw for Friday’s quarter-finals – first: 1 Hey Gringo, 2 Farloe Titan, 3 Jazz Apollo, 4 Jaytee Tiger, 5 Longwood Days (m), 6 Sids Dream (w).
Second: 1 Ballymac Eugenie, 2 Ding Hero, 3 Droopys Loner, 4 Granard Bound (m), 5 Droopys Lorenzo (w), 6) Mays Gold (w).
Third: 1 Bowtime Joey, 2 Boherna Bridge, 3 King Jaffa, 4 Longwood Fantasy (m), 5 Coom Bullet (m), 6 Guiness Magic (m).
Fourth: 1 Mark My Words, 2 Ballymac Cryan, 3 Spinkys Nod, 4 Lenson Mac, 5 Bit View Micko (m), 6 Slick Santiago (m).

Turning on the Style

Peggys Style made a stunning debut yesterday at Hove recording a 7 1/2 length win in the Coral Maiden Stayers Trophy. Peggys bounced away from traps and was always in from rank before kicking on again at the sixth bend to go on to win in 42.37

Sunday 19 February 2012

Puppy Derby Contenders show class is 5 star night at Monmore

With the Puppy Derby fast approaching it was great to see two of our contenders win at the venue where the classic puppy race will be held. Rooneys Lad took his 4th career win from 5 starts when he took the Division 1 Puppy Open in a splendid 28.36. This was then bettered in Division 2 when Sharp Bullet recorded his first Open race win taking the competitive contest in 28.33

We have had a very tough couple of weeks with the graded dogs so it was great to get among the winners. Walkaway Tyson took advantage of a rare drop to A3 as ran out an impressive six length winner in 28.72.  Head Iton Woodie recorded his first win of 2012 when he took he S1 in 38.61 by one length. Galtee Judy rounded up a great evening for the team when she took the closing A4 in 28.80, a very pleasing performance.

Bid heads to Trafalgar Final

After a number of great runs without winning Smart Bid recorded his first win for us last night when he took Heat 1 of the Trafalgar Cup at Oxford. Bid showed some great early pace but still had be brave round the first bend as he entered it with Jolly Jino. Coming out of the first two bends he kicked clear to win by three lengths in 26.70.

Wednesday 15 February 2012

Adamson syndicate snaps up Boss

Will Adamson's Syndicate have today purchased smart prospect New Boss. The September 2009 son of Express Ego is already top grade at Monmore and I'd expect him to give the syndicate some great nights at the track. Good Luck chaps and thank you for your continued support.

Monday 13 February 2012

Solid Trial from Vedfield

Puppy Derby prospect Vedfield Solid went round Monmore today in a pleasing 15.54. Fingers crossed we will have a strong team for when the competition kicks off.

Friday 10 February 2012

Serious Well Bred Pups for Sale

I'm pleased to announce the Ninja Jamie x Cabra Fly dogs are now for sale. They are stunning looking lads and its difficult to pick between them. The pups are currently six months cold and they are priced at £2,000 which includes rearing until they are 12 months old. Any owner would have a lot of enjoyment in coming up on a Sunday and seeing how they develop.

Ninja Jamie was a stunning race dog who won the East Anglian Derby. Jamie is the sire of Puppy Derby prospect Rooneys Lad aswell as Smart Bid and Smart Bullet. Cabra Fly was a super bitch trained by myself. She won a Puppy Oaks and reached the English Oaks quarter finals.

Any one interested can some and inspect the pup for themselves. Please call if interested.

Judy gets off the mark

Galtee Judy recorded her first career win last night when she scored at Monmore. Quickly away from traps she avoided the trouble on the first bend to slip clear to take the A6 contest in 29.49 by 3 1/4 lengths.

Thursday 9 February 2012

Matt over the moon with Sid

Matt Garnett's Sids Dream ran out a very impressive 5 1/2 length win at Swindon last night. Having his first race since October he showed some fantastic pace coming out of the second bend and then simply flew home to win in 30.14. All Matt's dogs are named Sid after his beloved Granddad.

Daughter of Peg ran a very solid trial in the Arc Trial Stake to local course and distance winner Sawpit Sensation. This race should put her spot on the competition however she is always at an advantage against the dogs.

Meeting Tom

Our latest team member Tom Faulkner has now been added to the team page of the website. Tom joined us from Paul Slater towards the end of 2011. At least we have a goal keeper now for the 5 a side team !

Below par performance at Henlow

The team at Henlow did a wonderful job last night to get the Sky meeting on. It was just one of those night for us when we had to come home without a winner. Penrhiw Guto didn't lift a leg in the opening Sky race, it may be case he didn't like the extreme temperature. Smart Bid and Maireads Hawk ruined their chances my missing the break and its essential you are handy at Helnow.  Fifis Legend ran much better than his finishing position suggested. He was very brave round the first bend but couldn't get back on terms with the leaders. When looking like he was going to burst through on the inner the door was closed again. Fingers crossed that all the dogs are sound this morning and he can prepare the pups for Monmore.

Relocation and refurbishment complete

I thought it was about time I post a few images of our new kennels. All the team have worked endlessly to get them complete as a quickly as possible. I've made a considerable investment in the new kennels but I realise you must keep invests to improve. The move will benefit the everyone including the dogs, owners and staff. A couple of dogs have taken a couple of weeks to settle despite it being only 400 metres from the old kennels but all seem to like their new surroundings now. Any new owners are more than welcome to call me and have a look round. (Dog in photo is Freds Champ)

Bridge and Legend score through the fog

We recorded an open race double last night at a fog bound Nottingham. Nottingham always put on some great small competitions so always try and send a runner or two. In their latest two round competition the William Hill 480 Trophy Fifis Romeo (pictured) took Heat 2 in 29.47. This dog should win plenty this year. Joining him in the Final will be Boherna Bridge who took the final Heat in 29.04. Bridge has really taken to Nottingham and has won three races on the bounce at the circuit. He has yet to finish out the first two on any of his starts for us.

Monday 6 February 2012

Speckled Magic

Homestead Speck got a deserved win this afternoon. She is only a dot of bitch who often gets a rough ride in races. It was great to see her take the S6 today in 39.92. Marazion Magic recorded his third career victory when he showed some superb early pace to take the A2 in 28.73 by one length.

Sion Black arrives on Wednesday

The highly rated Sion Black arrives at Westview Kennels this Wednesday. This young puppy is going to develop into a major open race stayer. Sion Black is a beautiful 69 lbs May 2010 puppy by champion stud dog of the year Crash x Sion Sleek who has already bred 28.60 winners Shelbourne Park.

Sion Black has been competing in the one of the hottest unraced stakes to be run this year in Ireland at Clonmel. (Express Shuttle & Express Trend were in it last year) both sold for over £50,000. Despite running over a distance which is way too short for her 480m/525 yards she has shown some spellbinding pace staying better than any dog in the competition.

In the third round she was only beaten 3 1/2 lengths by Jacobs Courage after coming from eight to ten lengths behind him. You would not buy Jacobs Courage for £15,000 and on the run to the pick up which is another 150 yards Sion Black was in front. She was sadly eliminated at the Semi Final stage but again showed her stunning staying power.

Like her sister her future is over the 6 bends. I'm delighted to have acquired such a talented staying puppy and we had to act fast to secure her as her displays have caught a lot of other trainers & owners attention here in Ireland & the UK.

This bitch is available for £6,000 or I'll syndicate out to help.

Saturday 4 February 2012

Kennels Closed on Sunday

Due to the severe weather kennels will closed to owners on Sunday. The surrounding roads have not been salted and its very unsafe to drive and also walk. Sorry for inconvenience caused at the late notice but I given it every chance to improve.

Win 15 for Radnor Blue

The super consistant Radnor Blue recorded his 15th career yesterday when he took the S2 in 40.24. Blue made the most of his rails slot and build up and early leaded and then stayed on well to seal another career victory.

Thursday Monmore Double

Direct Angie (pictured) made in two wins on the bounce on Thursday when took the A8 in 29.97. Goodbye Mary provided with our second winner as she landed a number of good bets for the local punters in the A3 which she won in 29.16

Thursday 2 February 2012

Fifis Legend makes Puppy Final

We will leave Henlow disappointed even though we will have another runner in the first big Puppy Final of 2012. Penrhiw Guto was badly baulked on the first corner however he stuck to his task well but just missed out on a place in the Final as he finished third in 28.10

The second Semi Final proved a strange race after Fifis Legend missed the early kick behind kennel mate Smart Bid who led. I'm still working how Smart Bid failed to qualify but he can probably blame the Legend who gave him a push in the right in the shadow of the line.

Doobys Gone West was always going to be up against it when drawn against Coolavanny Bert. A slow start ended his chances but he did battle as well as he could. Bert looks to be a serious greyhound.

With six railers getting to the Final the draw would be critical. Thankfully Fifis Legend has drawn Trap 2.

Great to see you Bertie !

At the Clonmel Coursing Festival this week I bumped into a man who I haven't seen for twenty years, the man in the photo above is my old boss Bertie Gaynor.

I started work for Bertie when I was just 14, he was a great trainer and taught me how to do a dog. He trained at Hall Green before he retired and went back home to Ireland. I had three good years there working with some great dogs. Great to see you Bertie !

Team head to Henlow Semi Finals

All our kennel followers will be able to watch the action from Henlow tonight live on Racing Post Greyhound TV (Sky channel 231) as they host the Premius Telecom Puppy Derby Semi Finals. Two qualify from each of the three Semi Finals.

Penrhiw Guto looks to have a tough draw in the first Semi Final at 8.10pm. The second Semi Final will see Fifis Legend try and built on last weeks debut whilst I wouldn't under estimate Smart Bid. Dooby Gone West clashes again with favourite Coolavanny Bert, I'd love him to lead up Bert.

Good luck to all connections.

Fantastic morning at Coolmore

We had a wonderful experience in Ireland this morning as we were kindly shown around the Coolmore Stud. We were shown some of the best horses of our generation including Derby winners and Group 1 classic winners. The above photos shows us with Galileo winner of the Epsom, Irish Derby, King George and now the sire of wonder horse Frankel. His fee per mating is £300,000 !

Blank night at Swindon

No luck for the team at Swindon last night. Maireads Hawk secured our best finishing position as he finished third in the Arc Trial Stake. Sharp Bullet was unplaced in the Puppy contest.
