Sales Update

I'd like to offer another warm welcome to Eddie and Karen Lamb from Holyhead. They have purchased the promising bitch Delighful Aine off our blog page. I like to wish them all the very best of luck with her.

I have a 1/3 share in Strong Merlot left, priced at £1,166.66 and 2 1/4 shares in Dixies Craft after loyal owner Rich Wood snapped up a share in both. Please call me if interested as these are two very nice bitches.

Pop goes Elite

Fizzypop Elite made it two wins from two starts at Monmore this afternoon when the January 2010 puppy who Heat 1 of the Kennel Sweepstake Owners Bonus Series. He once again showed the same pace he showed on his debut to take the A6 race in 29.20. Elite is owned by new owner Perry Madden. Not many owners start with 2 wins. Great to have you on board.

Ace is simply awesome in Joe Hardy Memorial

It was service as usual from kennel superstar Ballymac Ace last night as he registered yet another big final win when he took the £5,000 Joe Hardy Memorial at Sunderland. Words escape me what this dog has achieved in his career. Personally I owe the dog and his former owner Ted a lot for the opportunity to train him.

Despite a poor draw Ace was quickly away to lead round the first bend and he was simply away and gone to record a 1 1/2 length win in 27.16. Magnificent performance.

Express display from Monmore team

It was four winners for the team at Monmore last night continuing our great form. Yorkshire Lady got us going with a great staying performance over the extended trip of 684 metres. Lady has now won back to back Open races and is still on the upgrade. Last nights win was in 42.09

Express Gear (pictured) was in demand with the local punters who sent him off a warm 5/4 favourite. The punters didn't have any concerns as him romped to a 28.79 win by 4 3/4 lengths.

A step up in 2 grades to A4 did not stop Corrig Blue as she romped to a 3 1/2 length win in 28.97. The bitch is really in great heart at the moment and I'll be interested to see how see develops over the next couple of months.

Our final winner at Monmore came care of Borna George who took the A6 in 29.18. George is a nice pup with an attitude to please.

Happy retirement Jimmy Lollie

I'm always conscious not to make our own website a general news page however I think its only right we wish Jimmy Lollie, the 2010 Greyhound of the Year, a very happy retirement. A winner of 71 races he has been a credit to Seamus Cahill and connections. We have had some great battles with him over the years with Officer Donagh, Ballymac Ace and Fifis Rocket.  What a dog ! Happy retirement old boy !

Pony takes Romford Maiden Final

Nigel Loxton and Wayne Pinnel's Jennas Pony enabled us to keep in touch with Mark Wallis in the Trainers Championship last night when she recorded a fantastic all the way win in the Coral on TV Maiden Trophy Final at Romford. She is simply flying from traps at Romford and the race was over in a matter of strides. The time of the race was 24.34 no doubt we will be returning to Romford with her in this form. It was great effort for Gagsys Classic to finish back in third.

Grading team in great heart

The strangely named Fizzypop Elite made her debut a winning one at Monmore on Thursday and the kennel scored a fantastic treble. Elite missed the beat as the traps rose but showed some nice pace to the corner and then slipped through to take the A7 contest in 29.63. Galtee Adams recorded her 6th career victory when she took the A4 in 28.96. Scarty Paddy recorded her first victory for us in the A2. Paddy has had some tough races since joining us so I'm really pleased with the 28.93 victory. Moving to Friday Drive on Pal got a deserved win in the A5 in 28.86

Laurels Round 1 Update

The Betfair Laurels started on Thursday night at Belle Vue. Our open race team is now down to the bare bones so we only entered two. I'm sure earlier in the year we would have probably had 4/5. Drumcove Lad  continued his great form and run of not finishing outside the the top two when he finished second to the well drawn Tudor Prince in 28.35. Sadly Freds Champ was eliminated in Heat 4 after after being forced very wide on the first bend.

Thursday 27 October 2011

Rocketing in at 14/1

Thomas Kelly's Bolt Ya Rocket took The Newcall Telecom RGT Trophy Final live on Sky tonight. Rocket pinged from traps and stayed on well to take the contest in 33.59.  Rocket has clearly taken a liking to the Henlow circuit.

The team at Henlow put on a fantastic meeting in front of the Sky team. This track is clearly going places.

Maireads Hawk was awfully unlucky in the puppy when he led off the last bend only to get attention from a pursuing dog. He has another big day coming soon.

In the Henlow Derby Brittons Empire broke well but was muscled out at the bend which ended any chance he had in beating the aeroplane that is Taylors Sky. Congratulations to Charlie Lister and connections.

Full report from Belle Vue and Monmore tomorrow.

Superstar Staying Puppy to land at Westview

Our talent spotter has been working really hard of late and has managed to secure the brilliantly bred young puppy Dixies Craft who has produced some outstanding staying displays in her short career to date.

Only a Feb 10 whelp, in her very 1st race of her life she showed tremendous pace after getting bumped in running to come from behind to win in 29.35.

In her 2nd last race at Limerick, she was racing against much older and more experienced opposition. Drawn in 5 - she showed 'massive' all round pace. Turning 2nd at the sprint boxes she and the 4 dog pulled 10 lengths clear of the rest of the field.

In her third run this classic young stayer just failed to win where she was beaten 1/2 a length in a quite brilliant time of 28.75, on the run to the pick up which is another 150 yards this champion young puppy was gone 3 lengths clear.

Dixies Craft is undoubtedly classically bred, her dam Hondo on Air is a 1/2 sister to the brilliant Barnfield on Air (one of the fastest dogs ever seen on a race track) .This is also the exact same dam line as Lenson Joker (The Cesarewitch winner, Grand Prix winner - The UK Greyhound of the year 2008 ), Elwick Chris (The Laurels winner), Boherna on Air (Gold Cup winner Monmore - 27.86 - sire of Unreal Timmy)

Dixies Craft comes from a major open class litter, her 2 litter brothers were sold for 5 figure sums, Boherna House (29.01 Thurles and a flying 16.17 at Clonmel), Aero Prince (29.46 Kilkenny) and Dixies Air (28.96 Limerick)

Make no mistake Dixies Craft is going to develop into one top open class stayer, not many greyhounds her age are able to record 28.80 around Limerick.

We look forward to her arrival at Westview Kennels and is available to a new or existing owner.

Three way Thursday

Henlow have put a cracking night of racing together tonight for the visit of the Sky cameras. We have Maireads Hawk in the 7.40, Bolt Ya Rocket 9.10, Sklyline Amber 9.25 and Brittons Empire (pictured) in the 9.45 Derby Final. All the races look very competitive and in all fairness one winner would be fantastic.

On top a normal grading card at Monmore will will also be heading to Belle Vue where Scurry winner Drumcove Lad and Freds Champ are both in action in the first round of the Betfair Laurels.

Monday 24 October 2011

Ponys makes Romford raid

We have two positive results at Romford tonight as they hosted another of their competitive competitions. Jenas Pony took Heat 1 of the Coral on TV Maiden Stayers Trophy with a hard fought 3/4 length win in 24.24. The win puts Pony through to Fridays Final. Joining Pony in the Final will be Gagsys Classic who finished second in Heat 2 in 24.51. I'm aware these times are not correct but hopefully the GBRB will update the site later.

Delightful bitch available for sale

As our push for the trainers Championship enters the final stretch we are always on the look out for new recruits at reasonable money.

One such young greyhound that fits the bill is Delightful Aine. This young bitch has already clocked the fastest time this year at Thurles greyhound track for the 600 yards.

Thules is rated one of the slower running tracks in Ireland. We have always had top class success buying greyhounds from Thurles including such Kennel favorites as Mashed Potatoes (27.90 Monmore) and Rackethall Hero (Gold Cup 2nd).

Racing over 600 yards Delightful Aine showed brilliant all round staying ability as she left her rivals trailing behind to clock a fabulous 33.11. She has also won in 33.45 for the 600 yards and 29.36 at Thurles over 525 trip.

This time for the 600 yards would be equal  to a 29.06 run for the 525 yards at Thurles. Have no doubt Delighful Aine will stay further, she looks ideal for 6 bends.

Not alone does Aine have fabulous all round pace but she comes from a major open class litter. They include :-

Tynwald Bolt- 28.96 Thurles - sold for £16,000 - 28.69 Limerick - 18.73 Shelbourne

Belvedere Olive - 33.54 600 yards Thurles - 33.45 600 yards Thurles - 28.78 Shelbourne Park - £8,0000 refused.

Please note that Delightful Aine has beaten some highly regarded greyhounds including top class A1/open class greyhounds.

She is priced at £2,500 and is available on a first come first served basis.

Ace makes Joe Hardy Memorial Final

Ballymac Ace qualified for yet another Final last night when he took the first Semi Final of the Joe Hardy Memorial. Ace led from traps and recorded a 1 1/2 length victory in 27.28

Draw for Saturday’s £5,000 final: 1 Prestonaintalkin, 2 Subway Rose, 3 Ballymac Ace, 4 Manilla Flash (m), 5 Skywalker Gold (w), 6 Elwick Ghost (w).

Scouting mission

I'm off to Ireland on Monday to see a number of dogs trial at different tracks. Our main man in Ireland has informed me to bring my cheque book which is always a good sign. If any one is looking for a young pup or anything in particular please give me a ring before I go.

Red hot Thursday

The cards at Monmore are always competitive however we haven't been banging in our normal high percentage of winners. On Thursday it was nice to see the stunning Corrig Blue record her first win. Stepping down in grade to A6 she made no mistake as she recorded a smooth 28.81 by 7 1/2 lengths. Barntick Cove was another one who recorded an easy win as she took Heat 1 of the Sweepstake which was an A1 in 28.53. The punters then seemed to get stuck into Goodbye Mary as she took the A3 in 28.88.  In the final race of the night the newly arrived Droopys Agatha recorded her debut Monmore win with a run from last to first in the A2 in 28.66

Empire rockets into Henlow Derby Final

Our fantastic night continued when Brittons Empire took the first Semi Final of the Henlow Derby. Empire simply pinged from traps to lead all the way to take the highly competitive race in 27.45. The make up of the Final looks particularly tough and Empire will need to fly from traps again if he is to beat the English Derby winner Taylors Sky who beat our Freds Champ.

Draw for Thursday’s £15,000 Primus Telecom Derby final: 1 Taylors Sky, 2 Brittons Empire, 3 Freedom Chief, 4 Ballymac Denis, 5 Blaackrose Boss (w), 6 Blonde Snapper (w).

Bolt Ya Rocket made the 550 Final when he took Heat 2 with a 1/2 length success in 33.51

Drumcove Lad seals Scurry with new Track Record

Drumcove Lad, third in the Irish Sprint Cup at Dundalk in August, went two places better in Thursday nights GRA Scurry Cup over 260m at Belle Vue, greatly aiding our Trainers’ Championship challenge in the process.
And it was some performance by the June 2009 dog as he made a flying start from trap two to soon put the issue to rest, powering home two and a half lengths to the good of defending champion Slick Citi in a new track record of 14.96, an improvement of four spots on the previous best of the former kennel star Centaur Allstar.

Many thanks to the team at Belle Vue for forwarding the presentation photograph.Congratulations to James Edwards, Will Adamson and Neil Britton owners of Drumcove Lad.

Ace on song in Joe Hardy Memorial

It was another long drive up north last night as Sunderland hosted the first round of the Joe Hardy Memorial. The bookmakers made our Ballymac Ace the Ante-post favourite. Ace opened proceedings when comfortably taking heat one. The East Anglian Derby champion looked to face a fairly routine task, being sent off 1-3 as a result and, while he did not immediately streak clear, the race was as good as over when he railed inside up-in-trip sprinter Swift Vance to lead at the first bend. Drawing away along the back stretch, Ballymac Ace came home more than five lengths to the good of Mill Mercury in 27.05. Sadly Bandicoot Fionn was eliminated from Heat 6.

Funeral Reminder

Ted's funeral will take place on Tuesday 18th  October at 12 noon at St Augustines Church, Edgbaston, Birmingham, B16 9JN. Hope to see many of you there as we will try and give Ted a great send off.

Walkaway success for Tyson Team

Andrew Winter's Walkaway Tyson sealed a fantastic win this afternoon when taking the £500 Kennel Sweepstakes Owners Bonus Series Final. Tyson was slow away from traps yet managed to weave his way through the field and stayed on strongly to win by 2 lengths in 28.81. This success is a great strory for the sport as Andrew bought the dog as an unraced pup after following our exploits in Sky races and through the website. It's great he has had so much fun with his first purchase.

Curra King made it two wins on the bounce she he stepped up to A3 with an impressive hard fought success to win in 28.91.

One share remaining in Merlot

Rich Wood snapped up a 1/3 share in Solid Merlot yesterday leaving just on third unsold. Thanks for Rich and the Gillespie family for their continued support.

Sunday 16 October 2011

Who wants to sponsor Team Allsopp ?

The Betdaq Premier League is on the way. I'm looking to recruit a company to sponsor Team Allsopp. The premier league will get a mass of publicity when it launches and will be shown on Sky Sports and a new premier sports channel weekly. Imagine your company name being the Team name and your company logo on the staff uniform for all TV interviews, on our website, kennels and transport. Please call me if interested.

Gillespie snap up share in Merlot

The Gillespie family came to kennels this morning and fell in love with Solid Merlot. They were so taken they snapped up a 1/3 share in the April 2010 pup. If you fancy one of two remaining shares of the 29.10 Limerick winner please call me.

Henlow Derby Semi Finalist for Sale

If there is anyone wanting a genuine Sky dog ready to run then this is your chance !

A half share in Brittons Empire is available for £3,500.

Empire has drawn Trap 1 in the Semi Final of the Henlow Derby and looks to have a great chance to make the Final which its £15,000 to the winner.

Rose gets deserved success

Tullna Rose finally got a clear run in a race last night as she duly showed her true running. Rose made the most of her rails position to land the Ladbrokes.com Division 1 416 in 24.76. Ballycasey Lady gave us second winner of the evening at Monmore when she took the A2 in 28.75

Head Iton Jason to retire

Head Iton Jason has had to be retired today. He sustained an injury at Monmore Green in a sprint solo trial, rupturing an FCU tendon.

Jason will be giving a great home with his owner Neil Britton, I would like to thank Neil and also Andy Pelley for being great owners.

Since we bought Jason off Steve Race in February he has given us all a great deal of fun and what a dog he been for the kennel. He has won 16 from 30 races (7 on the bounce) for us and earning over £18,000 in prize money.  He went unbeaten at Monmore winning 6 from 6 and his big race wins were at Monmore, the Category 1 Summer Classic and August Festival Stayers.

Jason is still the leading Sky dog with 5 wins live on Sky Sports this year, his greatest on Sky race I think was his race at Hall Green when first time round the track he did a 39.14 over the 645 trip, this was the 2nd fastest ever time over that distance and he was close to breaking the great Palace Issue clock which stands at 39.01.

I would like to thank Steve Race for selling me this great dog and also don't forget Steve won the 3 steps to victory with Jason back in 2010, so the dogs total career earnings would be well over £25,000.

It would be great if Jason could hold on and win the Top Sky Dog award for 2011, and also Jason could still win Stayer of the year for 2011, he would have to get more votes than the great Blonde Fletch but Jason had a knack of beating Fletch when they ran against each other.

Henlow Derby Photos

Steve Nash kindly forwarded a couple of shots from the action at Henlow. The top shot shows Brittons Empire in Trap 1 whilst the second shots Fred Champs powering clear.

Tyson is knockout in Bonus Sweepstake

Monmore hosted its round of the Kennel Sweepstake Bonus Series last night which has been well received by owners. In Heat 1 of the 480 Cooladerry Rise sealed the second qualifying spot in 38.79. Whilst Andrew Winter's Walkaway Tyson was a well supported favourite in Heat 2 which he took in 28.87

Henlow Derby Review

We returned from a superb nights racing at Henlow with an impressive Henlow Derby Double and two eliminated.

Freds Champ was very quickly away from traps in Heat 3 and that lead was decisive as he galloped to an impressive 27.42 win by 4 1/2 lengths. Sadly Fifis Rocket got caught up in trouble at the first bend and was eliminated. Fifis Whitesox suffered the same fate in Heat 5.

Brittons Empire took the final heat when recording 27.78 when beating the highly rated Blonde Snapper.

Scurry Final for Drumcove

On the evidence of last the night the GRA Scurry Final still looks winnable with Drumcove Lad. He finished second last night in 15.35 beaten by just 3/4 length. He drew trap 2 to the Final and if he can find his trapping boots he would have a grand chance in next weeks Final.

Draw for next Thursday’s £3,000 final: 1 Slick Citi, 2 Drumcove Lad, 3 Cloncunny Magic (m), 4 Hurry Back (m), 5 Droopys Calvin (m), 6 Dynamo Joe (w)

Wednesday 12 October 2011

Peg just denied

Paul Scott's Daughter of Peg was denied in the shadow of the line tonight in the Angel of the North Final live on Sky. Quickly away she showed some super all round pace before being caught just before the line. It was a super run from the bitch in a very competitive race.

Monday 10 October 2011

Half Share in Brittons Empire for Sale

A half share is available in the 2011 Pall Mall winner Brittons Empire. Empire recorded 27.40 around Henlow last week and will go into the Henlow Derby as one of the favourites. The Derby is worth £15,000 to the winner and starts this Thursday.

The largest sensible big for this category one winner before Thursdays race will secure the 50% share. Who will start me off with the first bid ?

Motorway madness

As always I'll try and mark your card where we are heading with the open race team this week. We start off with a trip to Newcastle on Wednesday where Daughter of Peg will be trying to pick some valuable Trainers Championship points in the Angel of the North Final. We shall be heading to Henlow as they host their annual Derby. Fingers crossed we get some good draws for Freds Champs, Brittons Empire, Fifis Rocket and Fifis Whitesox. Thursday will see us head to Belle Vue where Drumcove Lad needs to finish in the first three to make his first major Final for us in the GRA Scurry.

Saturday 8 October 2011

Drumcove draws one in Scurry Semi

Drumcove Lad made it two wins from just 3 starts when running out a convincing 4 1/2 length in the first round of the Scurry at Belle Vue. Cove recorded a very sharp 15.34 and has drawn trap one in the Semi Final.

Flying Pups

I must let you all know that former kennel favourite Carbra Fly has had her second litter. The first pup to run from the first litter won at Clonmel in 29.34, showing early pace and stayed on well. These five pups are by Ninja Jamie and were born back in July 2011. All are all stunning blue dogs and are priced at  £1200 each. Please call me if interested.

Funeral news

Ted's funeral will take place on Tuesday 18th  October at 12 noon at St Augustines Church, Edgbaston, Birmingham, B16 9JN. Hope to see many of you there as we will try and give Ted a great send off.

Long journey home

Thursday proved to be one of this nights when things sadly don't go to plan. On arrival at the track Head Iton Jason was withdrawn.

Ballymac Park was badly baulked in the Northern Puppy Derby so had no chance to qualify. Daughter of Peg was just denied by a short head in the Angel of the North but still clinched a place in next weeks Final.

The All England Cup Semi Finals proved very disappointing as Freds Champ, Ballymac Ace and Bolt Ya Rocket were all eliminated.

It proved a very long drive home. We will brush ourselves down and crack on with the rest of year. You do get these disappointing nights on occasions.

Wednesday 5 October 2011

Hats off to Team Wallis

First of all I'd like to record my sincere congratulations to Mark Wallis and connections for winning last nights St Leger at Wimbledon. It was a great training performance which puts him well clear at the top of the Trainers Championship.

We have to start our fight back tomorrow. We head to Newcastle with Ballymac Park in the Northern Puppy Semi Final, Daughter of Peg and Barntick Cove in Angel of the North whilst Bolt Ya Rocket, Ballymac Ace and Freds Champ are in the All England Cup Semi Finals.

Across at Belle Vue Drumcove Lad will represent us in the Scurry.

Tuesday 4 October 2011

Shuttle ready for take off

Express Shuttle (pictured) returned to the track yesterday and recorded a very pleasing 15.35 in a Sprint Trial at Monmore. Even more pleasing was he came off 100% sound and will now head to Henlow on Saturday. Shuttle will trial along side Brittons Empire, Fifis Rocket and Fifis Whitesox in preparation for their Derby.

Westview lose a legend

Long standing and loyal owner of Ballymac Ace Dr. Ted Megaw sadly died this morning. Ted had been suffering with cancer for a long time, and is now free from pain.

His good friend John and his partner Elaine told me the sad news this morning.

Ted over the years had not just been a great owner but a good friend to me and all the staff will miss him immensely.

My deepest condolences goes out to Elaine and all the other friends and family who knew Ted. It's a very sad day.

When I have funeral arrangements, I will post them on the site.

Empire and Rocket head to Sky night

Its another fantastic night of racing ahead at Wimbedon night. Sadly Head Iton Jason didn't make the St Leger Final however we have Brittons Empire and Fifis Rocket running from his favoured trap 6 on the undercard. Make sure you tune in and cheer on the boys !

Monday 3 October 2011

The race is hotting up

The race for the 2011 Greyhound Trainers Association Trainers Championship is getting seriously hot. Southern Dooey's win at Romford on Friday but us back on top but that lead is just two points. Mark Wallis has got some big chances in the next 10 days so could well be chasing again come the end of the week. I'd like to thank all my loyal owners for their continued support and also to the lads who are doing to serious miles with dogs. Thanks again.

King on royal song

Curra King (pictured) put in a super performance in this afternoons A4 at Monmore. Trapping quickly from trap 5 he simply never saw another dog in the smooth 28.81 win by 1 1/4 lengths. This was Kings third career win, hopefully there are plenty more to come.

Sunday 2 October 2011

Three progress in All England Cup

It was a top class card at Newcastle last night as they staged the first round of the WilliamHill.com All England Cup and the Northern Puppy Derby.

In the All England Cup Freds Champ lead all the way in Heat 1 to run out an impressive winner in 28.59. The winning margin of six lengths will mark him down as a serious contender given the right draw. Bolt Ya Rocket got the valuable third place in Heat three to progress to the Semi Final stage.  In the final heat of the evening was Ballymac Ace. Ace was up against old rival Blue Artisan. Artisan showed the most early pace which enabled him to build a lead Ace just couldn't pull back on this occasion. Ace finished a good second in 28.64

In the Northern Puppy Derby Ballymac Park progressed after finishing third in Heat 4 in 28.96. I'm confident he can improve on this performance. Maireads Hawk was the disappointment of the evening as he only finished 5th after checking on the first bend.

All England Cup Semi Draw

First: 1 Bolt Ya Rocket, 2 Tudor Prince,  3 Jordan Light,  4 TaylorsCruise, 5 Yahoo Jamie (m), 6 Peggys Way (m).

Second: 1 Oran Jaguar 2 Salacres Vision,  3 Mill Bling Bling, 4 Ballymac Ace, 5 Bubbly Olly (m), 6 Elwick Archer (m).

Third: 1 Local Dee Jay, 2 Farloe Iceman, 3 Blue Artisan, 4 Longwood Fantasy, 5 Freds Champ.(m), 6 Pats Legacy (w).

Monmore Saturday Double

Back at home track of Monmore we recorded a Saturday night double. Galtee Adams made it 2 wins from 3 starts when she took the A4 in 28.81 by 2 1/4 lengths. Ballymac Away continued her great from when she made it back to back wins when taking the A6 in 28.90

Dooey's Final win sends up back on top

Southern Dooey set up back to the top of the Trainers Championship standings on Friday night with a serious performance to take the Coral on TV Bitches Final. Using her early pace she was simply away and gone to take the Final by 2 1/2 lengths in 24.23. Barntick Cove ran a brave race in 4th but on this occasion Dooey took the honours.
