Cluxtons Free delivers Monmore Puppy Derby title

Well today was an amazing day. Simply unbelievable ! Those who are involved in our great sport understand the long hours, the miles driving round the country, the terrible injuries we have to treat throughout each year but today was one of those days when its all worth while.

Cluxtons Free delivered a kennel 1-2 in the £12,000 Ladbrokes Monmore Puppy Derby, a race we have been trying to win since I started training. I feel its just reward for winning owner Paul Scott who sadly lost Rooneys Lad last year who looked to be a serious greyhound in the making. Paul did actually win the Puppy Derby with Newinn Rocket with Pat Rosney before selling all his dogs after a run of bad injuries. Paul had ten months out of the game before Paul's son Nick bought Lady Sadie when followed him buying Cluxtons Free.

Cluxtons Free lead from the moment the traps rose and after an early battle with Remember Scotie. After Scotie had run his race kennel mate Stategic Choice stepped forward to lay down a challenge to Cluxtons Free. As they turned for home our pair stayed on superbly but it was Claxtons who raised the roof to win by 1/2 length in 28.53

Steve Nash was at track side and will send me photos as soon as possible for the blog.

I've tried to win the Puppy Derby for six years. We went close with Burnpark Champ and runner up with Express Shuttle. It the third time we had made the final so it was unreal to get the 1-2 !

The stunning fawn Express Flame made it one of the best afternoons ever for us when she took Ladbrokes Spring Festival Bitches Final worth £1,000. Showing some great early pace she was never headed in the 480 metres contest to win by 2 1/2 lengths in 28.48

I would like to say a big well done to all the staff after such a great day.

Smart performance by Bid in Puppy Derby

It was another night of mixed fortunes for us at Monmore last night as the biggest Puppy competition of the year started. Smart Bid put in a very gutsy effort to take Heat 4 in 28.54 by a short head. Whilst it was a cracking performance he will need to improve again to seal a place in the Final. Sadly Fifis Legend suffered a nasty fall in the same heat. I'm pleased to report he is just a little stiff and should be fine with a short rest.

First bend crowding ended the chances of both Vedfield Solid and Sharp Bullet in Heat 3. Whilst we are disappointed I'm sure both dogs will have great year in 2012. Our final runner Sids Champ snatched the final qualifying spot in Heat 6, he suffered traffic problems in running but stayed on well.

Draw for Next Thursday's semi-finals:-

1st semi: 1 Daddy Knowsbest, 2 Manic Scolari,
3 Sids Champ, 4 Newlawn Rocket, 5 Guiness Dusty (m), 6 King Bradley (m)

2nd semi: 1 Scramble, 2 Holloway Road, 3 Rockburst Pearl, 4 Confident Rankin,  5 Benkaat Blue,  6 Camas (m)

3rd semi: 1 Pinewood Express, 2 Be Real, 3 Alien Planet,
4 Smart Bid, 5 Slick Saleen (m) 6 Bubly Pheonix (w)

Five accepted for Ladbrokes Monmore Puppy Derby

We had five accepted for the £12,500 Category One Ladbrokes Puppy Derby which starts on Thursday. The competition has attracted any the countries leading pups and this year there is an added interest as Owen McKenna will be travelling over from Ireland.

Vedfield Solid will clash with Sharp Bullet in Heat 3, Fifis Legend takes on Sharp Bid in Heat 4 and Sids Champ will take his chance in Heat 6. Good Luck to all connections.

Tonight we are heading Romford and Nottingham hoping to record a couple of winners.

All in for Vedfield Solid

The One in all in Syndicate today agreed terms to purchase Irish super pup Vedfield Solid. Vedfield Solid has had two races in his career to date winning them both including the Final of the Rising Kennels Open Unraced at Youghal. In truth the pup never really took to the track at Youghal which makes his wins even more remarkable. This lad has sheer class and pace.

He has clocked some serious unofficial times and with his blistering early pace he will be a big runner in the Monmore Puppy Derby.

The syndicate does have 4 shares available (6 sold) in this dog priced at £1,000. This syndicates previous dogs have been Express Shuttle and Maireads Hawk. If you would like to join this illustrious friendly syndicate please call immediately as I'd expect the shares to be sold very quickly. Update Now 3 shares left !

Still over the moon with the Shuttle

It was a case of so near so far last night as Express Shuttle finished a brilliant second in the Monmore Puppy Derby Final. The way the Shuttle ran tonight I couldn't have been more pleased, he ran his heart out and just got beat by an exceptional greyhound in Droopys Greg. Congratulations to Gary Newbon, Nick Savva and his team. I'd like to thank all my owners for coming along and giving us great support. Many thanks to Dave Yanez (davidyanez@mac.com) for the photographs.

Shuttle flies in to Puppy Derby Final

Express Shuttle (pictured) blasted in to the Monmore 2011 Puppy Derby Final with an all the way win in 28.58. The son of Kiowa Sweet Trey blasted from traps to lead all the way to record a 1 1/4 length win. Only heat 1 winner Shades of Nobby recorded a fast sectional, whilst the fastest Semi Final was the third one which was taken my favourite Droopys Greg.

Express sets headlines in Monmore Puppy Derby

Express Shuttle (pictured) was in great form this morning after setting the standard in the heats of the Ladbrokes Puppy Derby over 480m at Monmore as he made a winning British debut for us in the final heat.

He quickly stamped his authority on the heat and after some great early pace he led 3 lengths out of the first bend and drew clear then came home more than five lengths to the good of Scala Maldini in posting 28.51 rewarding the local punters who sent him off as the 5/4 favourite.

I couldn't have been more pleased with him and the draw next week should suit him.

That time just shaded the 28.54of Nick Savva’s Droopys Greg in heat five as he once again outstayed Aherlow Shaw, while there was a cracking racing debut from Ricky Holloway’s Razldazl Bugatti in the opener as he won in 28.59sec.

Other heat winners were Call Me Fast (28.78), Supreme Chalkie (28.85) and Shades Of Nobby (28.87).

Draw for Thursday’s semi-finals –

First Semi Final : 1 Scala Maldini, 2 Shades Of Nobby, 3 Onyougojoe, 4 Aherlow Shaw (m), 5 Freedom Chief (m), 6 Peekay (m)

Second Semi Final : 1 Express Shuttle, 2 Razldazl Bugatti, 3 Third Intention, 4 Allisons Delight, 5 Ballymac Rory (w), 6 Crime Wave (w)

Many thanks to Steve Nash for sending the photos so quickly. If connections would like to order a photo from Steve please contact him through his website (please mention our website as where you saw the picture)

Third Semi Final: 1 Call Me Fast, 2 Droopys Minnie (m), 3 Droopys Greg (m), 4 Supreme Chalkie (m), 5 Fabulous Watsui (w), 6 Droopys Tsonga (w)

Shuttle is just Express in Monmore Puppy Derby

Express Shuttles debut could not have gone any better as he pinged from traps in tonights Heat 6 of Monmore Puppy Derby. He was simply away and gone and recorded a rapid 28.51 to win by 5 1/4 lengths. If the time gets confirmed it will be the quickest time of the night. I'll post more reaction tomorrow.

Shuttle ready for take off

I'm proud to announce a great new buy for the kennel called Express Shuttle.

A newly formed syndicate have purchased this well bred May 09 pup, who flew round Clonmel on Sunday posting a superb 28.73. The pup made Racing Post headlines on Monday but was my man in Ireland was fast on the case to try and agree a deal to bring him to to Midlands with the intention to run him in the Monmore Puppy Derby.

The 9 strong syndicate are made up of Peter Symonds, Len Timmins, Neil Britton, Mick Giles, Mike Gould, Carl Collins, Steve Cooper, Steve Albiston and Tadghe Moynihan. Good Luck to all the syndicate.

I do have a very nice bitch puppy that has become available and is already in the kennel, more details to follow.

Woody snaps up the Ranger

Loyal owner Rich Wood struck early yesterday when securing the purchase of one of the seven new pups that arrived from Ireland. Curra Ranger (Black Shaw x Traffic Eclipse) is an unraced April 09 who recorded a nice trial at Clonmel. It would be great if he could turn into a pup cabale of running in Monmore Puppy Derby. Good luck Rich !

Ace and Rumble star in Puppy Derby

Both Ballymac Ace (pictured) and Ballymac Rumble both put in stunning performances at Monmore this evening to put themselves in the front rank of the Puppy Derby contenders. Direct Dan finished a brave 4th, he will no doubt have his glory in the future.
