Merry Christmas to All

I'd like to wish all my loyal owners, staff and social media followers at wonderful Christmas. It's been a great year in which it would not have been possible without your continued support.

Racing Post Greyhound TV presenter Julie Collier will be at the kennels on 15th December our Christmas Owners Party. She will be interviewing owners, staff and Santa himself and no doubt staying for a few festive drinks. So make sure  you are all looking your best for the big morning of the year.

Christmas Owners Morning Date Confirmed

Our now famous Christmas Owners morning will take place on the morning of Sunday 15th December. All owners new and old are all welcome for hot foot, drinks, raffle and plenty more. Its a great chance to interact with the other owners and celebrate what has been another great year for the kennel.

Will look forward to seeing to all that morning.

Blogs worth a read

I would recommend any greyhound fan to have a good read of the Racing Post website as there a number of very interesting blogs to read.

Tom Francis has good a one this week from an owners perspective. Take a look, a know a few of you enjoy your daily fix of greyhound racing. 

Toms stars in the Crayford Wiggle

Our very Tom Faulkner starred on Racing Post Greyhound TV last night when performing his own version of the Crayford Wiggle. Tom clearly took to his new role and a future career in musicals could well happen if the dogs don't work out.

Fair play Tom however I think Jules might just have little more style.

Coursing, Guinness and talent spotting

I'm away in Ireland at the moment to enjoy a few pint with our Irish friends and take it some coursing action. With the wind blowing and expected rain it should be perfect weather for coursing. The boys back home will be taking great care of the dogs as always. See you all next week.

Monmore lead the field

It's great to see Monmore leading the field in terms of new innovations. Owners can now download race videos from there website for just £1.00 each. A great was of seeing a race if you missed it.

Whilst looking at the site I glanced at the other trainers sites on how often they do updates. One was a link that doesn't work, two was 19th August, one appears to have lost their hosting, one January 13, whilst Pat Curtin does provide regular updates. As an industry we must do more to retain our owners. Our website and social media, whilst is hard work at times, is an essential tool to enhance communication with owners and also attract new ones.

Drumcove Lad retired to Stud

Superstar Drumcove Lad has been officially retired this week and will stand at Merefield Stud. The dog is in great form but connections Will Adamson, James Edwards and myself decided he has nothing more to prove. Drumove Lad who is bred by Scarty Lad x Drumcove Fancy, June 2009, will be remembered at one of the leading sprinters of his generation. 

Drumcove Lad was named Champion Sprinter in 2011 and won everything a sprinter can in the UK. Winning the Scurry at Belle Vue and National Sprint at Nottingham in 2011.  He then came out of retirement to win the prestigious Festival Flyer at Sunderland. 

He won 19 of his 40 races and for me his best race was when he destroyed a quality field at Parry Barr in the Trainers Championship. He sheer determination to get to the corner in front won him many races. Not forgetting his track record at Belle Vue in 14.96.

Drumcove Lad also featured with his big friend Steve Masters on BBC1's Question of Sport show taking greyhound racing to a new audience. 

He is be missed by all the team at Westview espically Steve who has cared for him over many years.

Kennel hand Micheal Reekie partied hard on Saturday after his wedding. I can report there was some serious bad heads come Sunday morning !

A good morning up at the kennels in which we managed to take a good number of file photos for the blog and social media. You will see most of them as those dogs start to win but I will post a few over the next couple of days.
