Strategic Review
Afewdollarsmore
The kennel landed todays £7,500 Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic for the third time in four years when the Mick Giles-owned Afew Dollarsmore snatched a thrilling short-head victory over odds-on Dural Bound in a grandstand finish in 37.74.
Mick Giles had previously won the same race in 2010 with Ten Dollars More, and the kennel also won the Category One prize in 2011 thanks to Head Iton Jason.
Aghaburren Paddy set a hot pace, leading to the run in, but began to run out of petrol and Afew Dollarsmore and Dural Bound closed rapidly, but crucially, Afew Dollarsmore had first run on his rival. They went past together, but the Dollars just prevailed.
We love this event at our home track and it’s proved hugely kind for us. If anything, the withdrawal of trap three helped us, because we desperately needed to get ahead of Dural Bound, and it proved a fantastic race.
It was a big race double on the day for the kennel as Strategic Review took the £2,000 puppy final by nine lengths in a fast 27.91.
This is a good pup and he proved that when he was runner-up in the Puppy Derby before finishing third in Kinsley’s Gymcrack after which he picked up a niggle. We gave him a break and decided to target this but of course the draw in four looked awful, but he handled it, and made the bend.
He broke well, tried to edge in but crowded slightly with Hannah Pearl before kicking clear at the turn, leaving trouble behind. Hannah Pearl recovered to take second and make it a local forecast.
We had to settle for second place in the 416 Final with the brave Kirk Superstar as you have to acknowledge the super run away winner Mottos Impact who took the race by 24.48.
In the graded races before the Finals, Shades of Dasya made it a fantastic three straight wins in the A2 by defying the grader again with a stunning 8 1/4 length win in 28.43.
