Brittons Empire takes Betfair Pall Mall

The Neil Britton owned Brittons Empire ensured the Betfair Pall Mall returned to Westview Kennels tonight at Oxford. Out trapping Ballymac Ace he burst clear to take the race by the scruff of the neck to win in 26.91. I've always fancied this dog to take a nice competition and its a great honour to win the Pall Mall again. Ace ran on strong to take 4th but was always struggling after a slow start. Head Iton Jason continued his wonderful 2011 as he took the 595 metre race in 36.84. Jason has now won 6 races of the highest quality on the bounce.

Amber and Speck impress at Monmore

Homestead Speck caught the eye on a competitive afternoon of racing at Monmore. Speck ran on like a superstar to take the S3 contest in 2 3/4 lengths (38.93). A step up in distance will surely be in cards in the near future. Skyline Amber also romped to an easy victory in the S2. We know from previous races if she is any where near the leaders with a lap to go she will chase anything down.

Golden Sky Card on Tuesday

Tuesdays televised Sky card looks seriously red hot at Oxford. We have been given 4 runners in the one off open in addition to Brittons Empire and Ballymac Ace in the Pall Mall Final. Those entered are Fifis Rocket, Ten Dollars More, Fatboyz Slim and Head Iton Jason. With Oxford being a short journey down the M40 I'm sure our supporters can once again be the loudest on the terraces on another Sky meeting. Good Luck to all connections.

Graded news from home

Back at Monmore we had two winners on Thursday evening. Skyline Bella was first to oblige when she made it 2 wins from 3 at Monmore when she took the A4 in 28.81. Cooladerry Rise ran out a convincing 2 1/2 length when taking the A3 in 28.52.

Ace and Empire reach Pall Mall Final

We returned home from Oxford with two of our three Semi Finalists reaching the prestigious Betfair Pall Mall. Brittons Empire was first to qualify when he finished second to Aherlow Shaw. Empire led to the final bend and I'll be hoping he can show the same early pace in next weeks Final. Sadly Fifis Whitsox left his trapping boots at the kennels and his race was over in the first few strides of the race.

Ballymac Ace was shuffled around on the opening turns, but showed a great burst of back straight pace to challenge rounding the last bend, before getting chopped by Pams Tomjo, who held on to score by  over a length, with Adams Honour close up and unlucky third.

Draw for Tuesday’s £8,000final: 1 Ballymac Ace 2 Brittons Empire 3 Buzz Doc 4 Pams Tomjo (m) 5 Aherlow Shaw (m) 6 Dromana Max (w)

Rocket returns

Thomas Kelly's Fifis Rocket (pictured) returned to track action last night with an impressive 15.50 win at Hall Green in a one off open race. The one length victory should bring him toward his peak form again. Freds Champ made is debut for us a winning one when he took the standard open in 28.51. There looks to be plenty of wins to be had with this fella. James Edwards owns Freds Champ is a new owner to the kennel, so it couldn't have started any better.

At Nottingham on Monday Fatboyz Slim returned to winning ways when winning the Stayers event in 42.06. Ballycasey Lady finished a brave second in the Puppy Oaks Final. She found 60 spots on her Semi Final win but went down by 2 1/4 lengths.

Jason takes Ladbrokes Summer Classic

Head Iton Jason pinged as the traps rose to lead all the way in the feature Ladbrokes Stayers Classic Final at Monmore on Friday afternoon. I was worried about the classy Blonde Fletch but Westmead Bolt [who turned second] helped us by holding him up a little. Blonde Fletch, tracking neatly, came to challenge approaching the fifth, but was crowded at that point and then had to be content with the £1,000 runner-up prize, beaten two lengths by the 37.85 winner – who earned a £7,500 pay day for owners Neil Britton and Andy Pelley.

I'm still floating round this morning after yesterdays big race victory. Its always a bit extra special when winning at your home track. I'm really chuffed for owners Neil Britton and Andy Pelley who both have invested a lot into the sport and deserve the success they get.

Jason was sold off our own website and just shows anyone can buy a genuine big race winner. If you are not already involved and fancy a crack why not give me or Paul a ring at kennels and we will try and find you a dog suitable.

Finally I'd like to mention all the team here at Westview. It is very much a team effort, many thanks to every one.

Hatrick time

Our home team kept the flag flying at Monmore on Thursday as we recorded three winners. Fatboyz Buzzard made it back to back wins when taking the A2 in 28.82. Phat Harold recorded his first win since joining us when taking the S2 in 38.88. He stayed on very strongly so it will be interesting to follow his progress in coming weeks. Finally Miss Everdean produced a gutsy display to win by 1/2 length in 29.22 when taking the A4.

Ace sets Pall Mall Standard but don't rule out Empire & Whitesox

Defending Pall Mall champion Ballymac Ace set the standard in the heats of the Betfair Pall Mall over 450m at Oxford Thursday night, showing all his old sparkle when blasting clear from the boxes for a comfortable four and a half lengths win in 26.55.

I’m particularly pleased for his owner, Ted Megaw. He’s one of our most loyal and long standing supporters, but hasn’t been at all well, and I know this will be right fillip for him. Ballymac Ace has had a virus and shoulder problem, and was given a good rest to  bring him back fresh for this. He loves at Oxford, who I'm equally pleased with Brittons Empire (26.68 in heat two). Empire doesn’t know how to run a bad race. Sneaking through some what unnoticed was Fifis Whitesox who ran a cracking debut for us. Trap 6 will suit in the Semi Final.

Draw for Thursday's semis (first two to live on Sky final Tues June 28) 1st semi 1 Buzz Doc 2 Spencers Lad 3 Jolly Poacher 4 Zodiac Zeus (m)5 Slick Signature (m) 6  Dromana Max (w)

2nd semi 1 Brittons Empire 2 Little Sensation 3 Hello Dino 4 Romeo Reason 5  Aherlow  Shaw (m) 6 Fifis Whitesox (w)

3rd semi 1 Ballymac Ace 2 Manilla Flash 3 Adams Honour 4 Perilous Guide 5 Pams Tomjo (m) 6 Slick Stone (w)

Ace & Empire off to the Mall

Ballymac Ace sets off to Oxford on Thursday night hoping to defend his Pall Mall title he won last year. Betfair have taken over the sponsorship of the event this year which we are all grateful of. Ace will be joined by Brittons Empire who has had a great 2011 and Fifis Whitesox who makes he debut for us. Good Luck to all.

Team Red Hot at Monmore

The Ladbrokes.com Summer Festival kicked off on Monday at our home track of Monmore. The four competitions were as competitive as always and its always give us all a thrill when we get a qualifier for the Final. In Heat 1 of the 480 of the dog competition Lively Mondays put his early pace to good use when setting up a good second place in 28.72. Are We Dancers and Fatboyz Romeo were both unplaced in their heats.

In the Bitches 480 Southern Dooey set the standard whe taking Heat 1 in an impressive 28.80. This was Dooeys 4th win from just 6 starts and gives proof that our sale website is the place to look for genuine open racers. She will be joined in the Final by Borna Jessica who qualified in second place in Heat 2 but I'm sure she will come on for the run. Fatboyz Diva & Tullna Rose both finished 4th.

The Stayers Classic looked a clash of the heavy weights and so it proved. Former inmate Westmead Bolt set up a clash with out staying big guns when he took Heat 1. The market decided Head Iton Jason would be to strong Ten Dollars More in Heat 2 and so it proved with Jason winning by 4 lengths in 37.98, the fastest of the day. Blonde Fetch won Heat 3 to set up a majestic Final on Friday.

G-Force Direct ensured we qualified for every Final when finishined second behind Gone to Carrhue. To wrap up a fantastic day for the kennel Ballymac Celia took the final race of the day (Heat 3) in 24.93.

Draws for Friday's Ladbrokes Festival finals:

Dogs 480: 1 Jordansoilutions, 2 Lively Mondays, 3 Longwood Days (m), 4 Clerihan Gold (w), 5 Oneco Black (w), 6 Coolbrook Paddy (w)

Bitches 480: 1 Little Flame, 2 Cuil Marian, 3 Spicy Lass (m), 4 Borna Jessica (m), 5 Boher Princess (w), 6 Southern Dooey (w)

Stayers Classic: 1 Head Iton Jason, 2 Westmead Bolt, 3 Blonde Fletch, 4 Rayvin Neasa (m), 5 Bower Hawk (w), 6 Ten Dollars More (w)

416: 1 Gone To Carrhue, 2 Bowtime Honcho, 3 Ballymac Celia, 4 Droopys SWilson, 5 Cotswold Flash (m), 6 Gforce Direct (w).

Slim at the Don

Dave Yanez kindly shot the attached photographs for the blog down at Wimbledon last night. The shots are a nice record for Paul who had the pleasure of walking Slim on Derby night. Many thanks Dave.  If you would like to order any image on the site then please just email and I'll pass on your request to the relevant photographer.

Walk in the Park

Our red hot novice Ballymac Park won his first race at Monmore last night. After contesting a very hot competition at Wimbledon he ran out an impressive 28.66 winner by 5 3/4 lengths in A3 grade on his Monmore debut. Galtee Petal rewarded his supporters when winning the A5 at generous odds of 7/1 in 28.98. Finally Direct Angie took the advantage of a drop down to A7 when she won in 28.98.

Taylors Sky takes Derby crown

Congratulations to Charlie Lister and his team who trained Taylors Sky to take the £75,000 Williamhill.com Greyhound Derby final at a packed Wimbledon on Saturday night.

Charlie's dog took control at the first bend and sprinted clear as Westmead Guru gave pursuit. Keeping up a relentless gallop the son of Westmead Hawk broke his own track record scoring by 5 1/4L in a superb 28.17.

Fatboyz Slim was third in the Dorando Marathon that was won in 56.69. Lotties Girl led from start to finish and despite Slim throwing down a big challenge he could never quite get on terms.

Derby Final day arrives

Its Derby Final night at Wimbledon tonight. It should be a fantastic night, lets hope Fatboyz Slim can win for us. Once I've finished updating the blog I'll be looking at our Facebook page to see if anyone has a tip left in. Wimbledon are expecting to welcome a close-to-capacity crowd of around 2,500 to the south London track Saturday for the williamhill.com Derby meeting. The days of five-figure attendances on greyhound racing's biggest night have long gone, and last year's moving of the track's racing operation from the grandstand to far-side Mick The Miller enclosure means the number of spectators is now limited to a maximum of 3,000. It's £15 admission for everybody - no concessions. Gates open at 4.30pm, and car parking is on a first-come first-served basis.”

It's been a great competition so far and Fifi Rocket was just brilliant and gave us all a great deal of pleasure. I'd like to wish all the other trainers the best of luck in tonight's Final.

Lets make a loudest cheers of night he Slim gets clear !

Young guns show serious promise

We didn't have to wait long for our first winner on Thursday as Bawna Antarctic took the 2nd race, an A5, in 29.04. This was Antarctics first career win and I can't see why he won't move through the grades swiftly. We may have found another nice bitch in Shiners Princess. On debut she recorded 28.98 in A3, a very impressive performance indeed. Fatboyz Buzzard ran out an impressive 28.90 winner of the A3. The margin of victory was 3 1/2 lengths, I can see this lad not be inconvenienced by another step up.

Hawk flies in first trial

The One in All in syndicate owned Maireads Hawk recorded an impressive 15.46 on his first trial at Monmore this evening. I couldn't be any happier with run. Exciting times ahead.

Slim set for Dorando Marathon

Fatboyz Slim, who will be bidding for a four-timer, has been installed as 2-1 joint-favourite by the sponsor for the Williamhill.com Dorando Marathon which is perhaps the highlight of Saturday’s Derby Final supporting card. Slim will be our only runner on Derby night.

Heading iton again

I've just struck a deal with Steve Race to purchase Head iton Woodie. This strong staying sort is a ready made open racer and should win many races. I've had some great success with Head iton dogs in the past including Head iton Jason.

If you fancy an open racer for just £2,000 please call me today to avoid disapointment ! First come first served.

Ace trial for Pall Mall

Ballymac Ace had a warm up trial  ahead of his defence of the Pall Mall title. He posted 26.74 which was the fastest time of the session. Roll on Oxford......................

Edwards joins the Westview Team

I'd like to offer a warm welcome to new owner James Edwards. James has sent me some very nice sorts to train for him including Freds Champ, Scarty Paddy, Hopestown Brea, Tictac Pacific and an unraced puppy called Winetavern Kevin. I hope you get plenty of luck with us.

Ladies night at Monmore

Southern Dooey took top honours on Saturday night when she made 3 wins from 4 starts. The impressive 28.67 win in the A1 marks this bitch down as as a serious bitch to follow. Yorkshire Lady looked to be coming back to form when she took the S2 in 38.56.

Dream end for Fifis but oh what a dream............

The Derby dream ended for all of us on Saturday as Fifis Rocket departed the English Derby at the Semi Final stage. He never simply came away from traps like he done in the previous heats. Perhaps the switch to trap 3 was a bridge to far. It has been a fantastic Derby and I know owner Thomas Kelly has enjoyed every minute of it.

Monmore Round up

Two great winners for the team on Thursday night. Are We Dancers made it three wins from his last four races when he took the A2 by 2 lengths in 28.50. He showed some great early pace and stole the race as he left the traps. Anthony Cameron's good run continued as his Fatboyz Romeo took another A1 in an impressive 28.23.

Drive on Pal was our only winner on the Friday card when he took the afternoons A4 in 29.09. This was his second win from his his last three starts and he looks to be staying the trip strongly.

Scouting Mission to Banteer

I have just returned from a flying trip to Ireland where I was on a scouting mission. I saw a superb litter of pups trial who are the next litter of a current track superstar. I'll keep you informed on how talks progress but nothing has been agreed at this stage.

We have also some great news about Borna Fences next litter. They are progressing very sweetly as will be with us in due course.

Here come Jonny !

Thomas Kelly has kindly sent me Jonny Whitesox to train for the rest of his career. Jonny reached the Final of the Waterford Master before come over to have a crack at the English Derby. I'm already looking at possible competition entries and Sky night with him.

Fifis sprints in to English Derby Semi Final

Fifis Rocket reached the Semi Final of the English Derby set a scorching pace to stretch the field in the final Quarter Final last night. He led off the last bend when the two close runs together may have stretched his stamina however he took deep to clinch the 3rd qualifying spot.

Rocket drew trap 3 in Saturdays Semi Final. Whilst we know he comes away better from trap 6 we can hope we can build up a healthy lead and clinch a place in the show piece final.

4 Pennys Viking(w)

5 Destroy The Camp (w)

Slim & Jason record Sky Double

The sky is the limit with Fatboyz Slim now as he made win 3 wins on the bounce when taking the Division 2 stayers event live on Sky TV at Wimbledon. Slim's all round pace was exceptional and took the contest in 41.82. We we now head back to Wimbledon on Derby night with him for the prestigious Darando Marathon.

Another dog in prime form is Head Iton Jason who took the scalp of Blonde fetch when taking the six bend open in 42.01 by 3 1/4 lengths. His supporters got a juicy 6/1 with any investments.
