Bouncing Boys
Saturday night roundup
Strategic review qualified in 3rd behind the freakish Holdem Spy, Exocet shrugged off another poor draw by coming second to Calzaghe Jack but European King was eliminated after serious trouble at the first corner.
The Monmore 'Possie' generally ran really well with good wins coming from Droopys Delilah in the Maiden Puppy Open (28.43) as well as Curragh Jessie proving too good in her A1 (28.46)

Kennel Update
Dear Chris,
Some notes about CANINE HAEMORRHAGIC PNEUMONIA (CHP).
What we know:
1. It is caused by a bacteria, usually "STREP ZOO" to give it its short name.
2. It is triggered by various stresses such as minor infections, transport and racing.
3. It is not directly linked with kennel cough, as kennels with no kennel cough can still get CHP.
4. It is rapidly fatal and early treatment is essential to effect a cure.
5. Dogs can die within 6 hrs, so they can be normal at say 11pm but be found dead at 6am.
6. Since signs appear quickly and with little warning, the first case comes as a great shock to the trainer.
7. Treatment methods have been well-tested, and most vets will know how to treat it and which antibiotic to use.
8. The key to spotting cases is taking the dogs' temperatures, and checking that they are alert and eating.
9. Normally quarantine is for 7 days, with no dogs permitted on or off the kennels quarantine and isolation blocks.
What we don't know:
A. How the disease gets into a kennel, but it is thought there are carrier dogs.
B. How the disease jumps from dog to dog with no apparent contact.
c. Why we only see 1-2 deaths even in large kennels.
===
The GBGB investigates all cases of illness at a kennels which are reported, and many cases do not get into the press. Controls are put into place without much publicity, so generally the background work is not seen.
Overall there have been dozens of investigations over several years, and most are not due to CHP.
There is ongoing research by the Animal Health Trust into CHP, and the GBGB sends samples to them for testing. (Your samples went there).
In your case, you have done the correct things by reporting the cases, seeking early veterinary attention and requesting myself to attend to advise on disinfection, isolation and quarantine procedures.
I hope this helps you to answer the questions from your owners.
Kind regards
Richard

We sadly had two sudden deaths in the kennel today, it was a complete shock as both dogs were in A1 condition.
The GBGB have attended the kennels to advise and we are shutting down for possibly a week, no trials or runners until we have been given the all clear.
No visitors until further notice please

Lynn's a little Gem
Lynn's little Gem was the talk of the trial session this morning , owned by Lynn Moore, this Nov 12 black bitch, could be something really special and give our very own Ballymac Ace a perfect start to his Stud Career.
This stunning bitch daughter of Zanfonic Oyster, recorded a 15.75 around Monmore Green today, the bitch born and bred at west view kennels, had only been in a trap 5 times prior today and looks the real deal, lets hope she gives Baz and Lynn some great nights out.
Ballymac Ace and daughter of peg litter are just starting schooling in our satellite kennel in Ireland, and good reports are also coming back.
Kennels Closed
Just to let everyone know, the Kennels will be closed Sunday 23rd March as all the surrounding lanes are closed all morning due to the Coventry 1/2 marathon.

Spring Sale at Westview!
We have loads of greyhounds for sale on our website right now, spring bargains for everyone from raw pups to experienced Open racers.
............................................................................................
INCH SMALLER
Lovely Bred Oct 12 black bitch.
Head Bound x Ballyhill Hazel
Inch Smaller breeding is second to none, her dam line has thrown Central City the 35,000 euro coursing derby champion, Sidarian Jaguar, Diesel Henry and many more great greyhounds.
This stunning daughter of Head Bound (stud dog of the year) will surely make open class.
She has had very little schooling in Ireland, recording 16.64 and 16.86 prior to arriving at West View Kennels.
At Monmore Green on Tuesday in her first trial in England, and only just over a week in her new surroundings she flew round in a sprint solo, railing closer, recording a fantastic 15.91.
The trial first time around the track as well as her age (Oct 12) and breeding suggests she will make open class.
Dont miss out on the very handy bitch, strictly as always first come first serve basis.
Two 1/3 shares available @ £1250 per 1/3 share.
One 1/3 share already sold to Howard Jenkinson.
..............................................................................................
PROUD OFTHE MAY
November 12 Black bitch
Kinloch Brae x Proud Pegs Gift.
Do you want another Proud Berry, Proud Patsy, Proud Dodge, Proud Pegs Tyler or Group One winner Tisalladream??
This is just a handful of top class greyhounds that Proud Pegs Gift has thrown, her latest and last litter to Kinloch Brae look equally exciting.
Proud ofthe May is a stunning looking bitch, she has only seen a race track twice prior to her trial at Monmore Green on Tuesday.
The breeder Paddy Pheelan who we have brought many dogs off over the years, does very little schooling with each litter and from past experiance we know how much these Proud pups come on with age.
This very young November 12' did a 16.19 at Monmore in her sprint trial on Tuesday, she will improve bundles with each run and could turn out into a real bargain.
£2,000

Trials were extremely busy today and i'm delighted with most of the runners. The three Ballymac Ace x Zafonic Oyster pups (Breakaway Paddy, Lyns Little Gem and Corley Ace) all went very well indeed.
Recent purchase from our website Inch Taller trialled very well as did Inch Smaller who will soon be appearing on the For Sale page.
