Tyson Strikes

Walkaway Tyson recorded his eighth career victory for his owner Andrew Winter today when taking the afternoons A2. Tyson was quickly away from traps and showed some great all round pace to take the contest by a length in 28.96

Bridge stars in four star performance

Our local supporters were treated to four winners last night at Monmore. Canyon Rock recorded his second career victory when opening our account when taking the A2 by a convincing three lengths in 29.01

Boherna Bridge put in a high class performance in the Open race over 684 metre. Bridge had to dig deep to force himself to the front and then stayed on very sweetly to take the contest in 42.87

Head Iton Woodie continues to set the standard in the S1's at Monmore and recorded yet another victory when coming from behind to win by three lengths in 39.01

Our final winner came care of Driving Force who took the A3 in 29.28. This was the dogs first win for us and I can see him winning plenty more in the months ahead.

William Hill Derby - Round 1 Report

Friday night saw the start of the 2012 William Hill Derby. As always its a great competition to be involved with however its probably the toughest test for any dog especially when you reach the final stages.

Goa Getta qualified despite finishing just 5th in Heat 4. Getta was very slow in coming away from traps and I'm sure she will improve for the experience.

Freds Champs (pictured) put in a stunning run in Heat 9 as he lead all the way to record a 1 1/2 length win in 28.66. Champ actually broke the split clock and if he can continue to break that well he could have a great Derby campaign.

Rusheen Major could only finish 6th in his first round heat last night and was sadly eliminated.

Trackcraft from Dixies

Dixies Craft made it back to back wins on Thursday night with a stunning win down at Hove. There was plenty of trouble on the first bend however Dixies rode her luck to push her way through and to go on to win by 2 3/4 lengths in 30.49. A cracking performance and there is no reason why she can't keep improving now she has found her feet.

Friday 27 April 2012

1...2...3....Hatrick

After a slow start last night we ended up bagging three winners on the bounce. Debutant Hidden Trend made no mistake in the A5 as he romped to a 4 1/2 length win in a very pleasing 28.93. Boris Johner made a great start to his Monmore career since his transfer from Romford as he really caught the eye by taking the A1 in 28.91. There are plenty of races to be won with chap mark my words. Finally Hard Core Rock didn't let a two grade rise stop him winning his third race from his last four starts as he took the A3 in 29.22

Massive week ahead for team

I'm off to Ireland tonight to collect the Ballymac pups I bought on my last visit. Lets hope there is another Ballymac Ace on the way !

Wednesday we head to Peterborough with three runners including Smart Bid in the Puppy Derby Final. This will be be my NAP. Grand servant Fifis Rocket will be retired after Wednesdays race. I'll do a special blog about him later in the week. What a dog to train........

On Thursday we have five runners at Hove plus the graded team at Monmore. All the action will be shown live on channel 231.

The William Hill Derby looks as competitive as ever this year. Our team will consist of Freds Champ and Goa Getta on Friday then Rusheen Major on Saturday.

Berry makes it three straight

Proud Berry recorded his first win away from Monmore Green yesterday when he took a competitive puppy open at Hove. He showed some massive early pace and no dog got near him as he romped to a 3 1/2 length win in 29.73. This lads career couldn't have started any better with three wins from three starts.

Great start to week at the Green

A pleasing start to the week today when we notched a grading double at Monmore. Rosmult Plover picked up another win when she took the A6 by 3/4 of a length in 29.37. Bawna Major got just reward for a string of solid performances when he took the A4 in 28.73

Knockout Saturday Hatrick

Three winners for team on Saturday at Monmore. Jennas Pony took the opening A3 when showing all round pace to take the contest in 28.96. Moscaville added another win to his CV when he took to A4 in 28.71. Moscaville has proved to a great money spinner for his connections as he has now won five races, winning from A8 to A4. Our final winner of the evening was Walkaway Tyson who stayed on well to take the closing A3 in 28.76 by 3/4 of a length.

Ace signs off to head off to Stud

Well today is the start of a new era for the kennels as we now need to get used to not having Ballymac Ace as our kennel superstar as he was retired last night after finishing second in last nights Division 1 Open.

Ballymac Ace (Ace Hi Rumble x Ballymac Mir) had 71 races in his career with us winning 31. He never once ran in graded company and won at twelve different tracks at distances varying from 305 to 480 metres. His greatest moments came when he won the 2010 Pall Mall and the 2011 East Anglian Derby. Throughout his career it seemed he reached all the big finals on Sky.

Ace was the real favourite of his owner Ted Megaws and it gave me the greatest pleasure to give Ted one more big race win before he sadly lost his battle with illness. He will be of course missed by us all at the kennels and no more so than Paul who has worked with the dog since his arrival from Ireland. Paul did a brilliant job with the dog and played a huge role in keeping the dog so well physically and mentally.

Ace will now head to Merefield Stud where he will be very well looked after and I can't wait to have a few Ballymac Ace pups to train.

Farewell old boy, you will be missed...............

Saturday 21 April 2012

Ballymac Ace to retire at Monmore

Our kennel legend Ballymac Ace will be retired this evening after competing in his final race at Monmore Green. The dog has been a total pleasure to train and I have have a lot to thank him for as his big wins brought many new dogs into the kennel. His former owner Ted Megaw will be looking down tonight and cheering him on as always. I've love him to go out with a victory to add to his 30 success and you can be sure he will be trying his best for the Monmore faithful. Ace will be heading to Merefield Stud to stand as our of their leading lights.

Bid is so smart to reach Perterborough Puppy Final

Smart Bid continued his amazing form last night when banging out of the lids to record all the way victory in the Peterborough Puppy Derby Semi Final in 25.60. This was the dogs 6th career win from just 12 races. Sadly the draw for Final hasn't been kind to us.

Draw for Wednesday's final: 1 Isheforreal 2 Glenadda Magic 3 Be Real 4 Newinn Rocket 5 Smart Bid 6 Farneys Mark (m)

Friday winner at the Green

Big Gud made it two wins from his last three starts yesterday at Monmore when he took advantage of a drop to A5 grade to run out a 1 3/4 length win in 29.06.

Talk of the track

Thursday night proved to be a a great evening for the team with us recording four winners. Hard Core Rock got the ball rolling for us when he took the A5 in 28.55, staying on very nicely. Goa Girl looked like a fantastic prospect when showing some super pace in the A4 taking the race in 29.04. I'm sure owner Nick Bestwick will be licking his lips at such a impressive debut.

Talk of track was Goa Leprechaun who came from the clouds to only be denied by a short head in a very competitive A3. This girl looks like every bit an open race stayer. We are building a great young team in the kennel this year.

Elsewhere on the card Townspark Eric made it two wins from three starts when taking the A2 in 28.72, and old favourite Head Iton Woodie recorded another top grade stayers win when he took the S1 in 38.53

Champ stars on Sky Night

Freds Champ put in a five star performance in front of the TV cameras this week when running out an impressive 1 1/4 length winner at Hall Green in the Ladbrokes Standard Division 1. Champ was actually slow away but zipped through the field on the run to the first corner, once hitting the front there was going to be no stopping him as he stopped the clock at 28.93.

Both our contenders (Sharp Bullet and Bandicoot Fionn) for the Ladbrokes Blue Riband had very difficult draws to overcome and so it proved. The draw combining with slow starts ended with both dogs being unplaced. However it was a great achievement for both dogs to reach a Category One Final and I'm sure both dogs will continue to improve.

Monday 16 April 2012

Bidding for another title

Smart Bid threw his hat into the ring as a Peterboro Puppy Derby contender when recording a brilliant 6 3/4 length victory in the first round. Bid simply flew from traps and lead all the way to win in 25.09. The Semi Finals will take place this Friday or which 2 will qualify from each Semi Final.

Saturday Treble

Saturday proved to be a great nights work as we recorded a brilliant treble. Penrhiw Guto got us started when he came from behind to take the Ladbrokes.com 480 open in 28.55. I'm hoping this will lift the dogs confidence as he is a talented dog. Cerrise showed some super all round pace to take the A2 in 28.66. The final race of the evening gave Dixies Craft her second career win when she dug deep to take the second A2 in 28.83.

Saturday 14 April 2012

Golden Sprint Disappointment

Friday night proved to be one of those nights when we had to return home to kennels without a winner or a Finalist. Ballymac Ace and Daughter of Peg both found trouble in running round the tight Romford circuit and as we know a bump in running realistically end your chances. Jennas Pony ran a very sound race on the supporting card when she finished second to Sequential in 24.16.

Aunts day at Monmore

Agony Aunt took advantage of a deserved drop to A8 grade on Friday when running out a 1 1/4 length winner. Aunt was soon in front and lead all the way to win in 29.40. On Thursday we had high hopes of winning the Owners Series Final with Canyon Rock however a bad start but him in all sorts of trouble and he ended up unplaced. Borna Line proved to be our only winner on Thursday night when she took the A10 in 29.24.

Thursday 12 April 2012

Monmore now on Racing Post TV

Just to let all the owners know every Thursday Monmore Green will now be shown live on Racing Post TV. Its totally free and can be viewed on channel 231.

Don't forget I am not just a Open Race trainer and always looking for new owners to bring in there graded dogs.

So if you fancy watching your dogs run live on TV and fancy a change of track give me a ring.

Wednesday 11 April 2012

Fionn and Bullet make Blue Riband Final

A fantastic result for the team today when we had the first and second in the first Ladbrokes Blue Riband Semi Final at Hall Green. In a very tough looking heat Bandicoot Fioon took advantage of the first bend trouble to surge round the outside and steal a lead coming out of the second bend. Sharp Bullet chased Fionn down very hard and only failed to catch him by a short head in 28.77. Both will now try and emulate our super Express Shuttle who won the event last year before suffering a terrible injury. The Final will be like on Sky next week.

Draw for the Final: 1 Ten Large Down, 2 Drumcrow Dav, 3 Farloe Titan, 4 Sharp Bullet, 5 Young Sid, 6 Bandicoot Fionn (w)

Tuesday 10 April 2012

Big Gud is Bank Holiday Winner

Big Gud provided us with our only Bank Holiday winner at Monmore yesterday. Normally the track is full with people in short sleeves on a Bank Holiday but it was a coats and gloves day. Big Gud was quickly in to his stride and lead all the way in the A5 contest stopping the clock 28.76.

Busy days ahead

We head to Hall Green tomorrow for the Semi Finals of the Ladbrokes Blue Riband. Our two contenders will clash in the First Semi Final, live in the Betting shops at 12.18pm. Sharp Bullet has trap 4 whilst Bandicoot Fionn is the sole wide seed in Trap 6.

A quarter share of Bandicoot Fionn has become available. If you are interested please call me straight away as I think the dog could well be capable of making the Final with the draw he has.

On Friday we are down at Romford once again for the Golden Sprint Semi Finals.  Ballymac Ace and Daughter of Peg look to have difficult draws in the second Semi Final whilst Drumcove Lad will be hoping to be away and gone in the final Semi Final.

Saturday sees the start of the Bettor.com Peterboro Puppy Derby. Entires look strong for this pacey competition so we will have Doobys Gone West and Smart Bid to represent us.

Nokes extends his team

I'd like to thank John Nokes who today who has stepped in to purchase 50% of super pup Tae Millis. John now has two fantastic dogs to represent him this year. John already has Proud Berry in his ownership. Its great to have so many great owners in the kennel.

Vedfield is open race scorer

Vedfield Solid recorded his first Open Race win on Monday evening when scoring at Nottingham. Solid was quickly away from traps and was never headed as he showed some super all round pace to win in 29.55. I'm really pleased for the dogs connections and I'm hoping the dog will win the syndicate plenty more races.

Sunday 8 April 2012

Monmore Round Up

Barntick Cove got back on the winners rostrum on Thursday when she took advantage of a drop to A3 by taking the race in 28.60. Moscaville stayed on very well on his first race over six bends winning by a hard fought short head in 39.49. After three promising second places Canyon Rock recorded his first Monmore win when he took the final A3 in the Owners Series in 28.88

Moving to Friday, we recorded a double care of Drive on Pal who won the A5 at a huge 8/1 in 29.17 and Hard Core Rock who was well supported to win the A7 in 28.93

Proud Berry was the talk of the track again on Saturday as he made it two wins on the bounce when he took the Puppy Open in a very smart 28.35. Earlier on in the night Edgars Champs (pictured) took the Division 1 416 Open in 24.72. Boherna Bridge stayed on very smartly to take the 630 open in 38.43.

Winter off in pursuit on NAPS leader

NAPS table finally updated. Those who failed to submit 3 selections on the bounce have been eliminated. Three of the top ten all nailed 9/2 winners. Andrew Winter is now with striking distance of Matt Garnett. Plenty of owners now in top ten with Sky Sports Julie Collier.

Superstar Pup Tae Millis jet lands into Westview Kennels

2011 - was a record breaking year for us at the Kennels when winning the 2011 Trainers Championship.

Following on from this success, we are constantly offered dogs which come up for sale from the Emerald Isle - The majority of them we feel are overpriced or Simply not good enough to contest the Major Category one events.

However Last week - A Champion young puppy emerged at Galway race track. Galway track has been the launching pad for several 'stars' of the racing game. Galway track is rated one of the slower running tracks in Ireland .40 behind the likes of Limerick - Waterford or Tralee.

Our very own Burnpark champ made his racing debut there and won in 29.45 & 28.84 in his 2nd race - He was the fastest dog to be ever trained by us at Westview Kennels. (sold for £20,000)

Other outstanding greyhounds to win there include Skywalker ace (28.75 sold for £50k) winner of the £20k National Puppy stake (28.45 Shelbourne) Broadacres Turbo (28.98 Galway debut) winner of the Masters at Waterford - (28.25) winner of over £90k in Prizemoney.

Oran Majestic - The Irish Oaks winner - The Irish Puppy derby winner - won at Galway on her debut in 29.03. winner of over £70,000 in prizemoney.

Last Saturday night - this majestic young Pup (Only Oct 2010) elevated himself into the above superstars sort of class with a simply breathtaking performance.

Backed in to a 4-7 Fav - on the basis of his trials (28.90) he never left the result in doubt. Rocketing from traps with a 3.27 sectional he easily made the 1st bend in front.

Down the back straight he left his field trailing in his slipstream with his massive all round pace - Flying through out, he came home unchallenged to win by 7 lengths in the style of something very special. Once the winning time of 28.79 went up racegoers realised they had just saw a future champion.

                           *******1st in 28.79 525 yards race Galway******
(Fastest time of the night - Fastest time of the year)

A brilliant run from this exciting talent. Once this pup won in this time - he has become 'hot' property - We acted very quickly to purchase him as pups with his potential are like goldust at the moment. If they do come up they are simply not for sale or are sold straight after the race. A lot of leading trainers in Ireland & England have been trying to buy him.

All this pup can do is improve further from this - He has now recorded major open race time in his very 1st race - and will go faster - He will easily do a 28.50 - 28.60 run which is simply phenomenal for a pup of his age - Look at all the superstars that have ran at Galway and only recorded the same time as Tae Millis.

Tae Millis will be arriving at Westview Kennels this Saturday Morning - He will be aimed at all the Major Category one puppy events including the likes of

The Caffreys Puppy Classic at Nottingham & The William Hill Puppy classic at Sunderland as well as all the Major Category events in the NGRC Racing calendar.

Make no mistake, this is one serious young talent and we are glad to have him joining us at Westview. We would rather be training him than having to compete against him.

Please phone me direct to discuss this pup further - He can be syndicated out to existing owners or can be bought outright.

The little Irish Leprechaun does well, now for the sis

Mays Leprechaun (Now Goa Leprechaun) has only been in training with us for a few weeks. Last Tuesday she produced a highly promising display.

Having the 1st 3 dog trial of her life at Monmore - she showed terrific all round speed to win by 4 1/2 lengths in very pleasing time of 28.71 - she will undoubtedly go faster - and a hugely promising career awaits her.

On the basis of Goa Leprechaun - we have now agreed terms for her litter sister "Mays Stopgoback" - who is going to be every bit as good as Goa Leprechaun.

"Stopgoback" - is only a Sept 2010 whelp - Classically bred being by "Droopys vieri x Perrys Lace - Perrys Lace is a full sister to Blackstone Gene - (£80,000 Refused) Their dam Blackstone lace

Produced such greats as Like a Shot - The Irish derby winner - Catunda Harry - The Irish Laurels winner

This is also the exact same dam line as our very own Sids dream - who broke the track record at Swindon recently (28.20)

Stopgoback in her latest trial at Waterford flew around to record 28.97 on a trial track - Her sister Goa Leprechaun recorded 29.27 at Waterford.

Like "Goa Leprechaun" - Stopgoback can only improve further - she is here at Westview Kennels and any prospective buyer is welcome to come and visit the kennels to see her.

She will be aimed at all the major puppy open competitions.

Bullet and Fionn progress in Blue Riband

In atrocious weather at Hall Green today two of our team progressed in the competition that was won by Express Shuttle last year. Bandicoot Fionn snatched a deserved third place in Heat 3 when battling on well in 29.70. Fionn will continue to be in the mix with these races as his early race is a great tool. Sids Dream missed his break so was eliminated. Sharp Bullet ran on strongly to take second place in Heat 3, failing by just 1/2 length to catch Ten Large Down who took the race in 29.85.  Maireads Hawk was withdrawn by the very before racing.

The draw for next Wednesdays Semi Finals will be made on Thursday.

Sunday 1 April 2012

Terms agreed for Superstar Puppy

I have just agreed terms for a superstar puppy from Ireland. This pup clocked the fastest time of the year at the track he raced at. I can't give you any more details at this stage and I want the dog on the way before any more information is revealed.

Further sales news is that the Ballymac Meave x Ballymac Penske pups were sold within two hours os going on the blog. Lady Ballyglass is also now sold.

Nokes so Proud of Berry

Proud Berry instantly repaid the faith shown in him by his owner John Nokes when taking the 480 Puppy Open in 28.36. We had hoped to aim Proud Berry at the Monmore Puppy Derby but after suffering a slight set back we have waited for the dog to tell us when he was ready. To beat the recent Monmore winner Cunning Deal a 4 3/4 beating was a great debut performance. This lad might even stay a bit to,exciting times.

I was very pleased that Townspark Eric recorded his first win of 2012 when he took the A3 in 28.81. Eric has been getting into all sorts of trouble early on in his races but last night he was away and gone, showing us all what he can do with a clear run.

Fifis qualifies in Scottish Derby

Fifis Legend qualified for the second round of the Bettor.com Scottish Derby last night when he finished second to Boher Legend who was then subquently disqualified after causing inference with Fifis. Sadly Freds Champs was eliminated in Heat 1 after finishing 4th.

Draw for Tuesday's second round - Heat one: 1 Fifis Legend, 2 Taylors Cruise, 3 Hats My Diamond (m), 4 Citizen Rebel (m), 5 Droopys Cristian (w), 6 Trickys On Fire (w)

Big guns on the mark at Romford

Two open race winners for us on Friday at Romford. Ballymac Ace recorded his first success of 2012 when he led from the second bend. Ace won by four lengths in 24.06. Ace has now won 31 races in his career and has recorded wins in four differnet calender years. Remarkable....

Drumcove Lad followed up his Trainers Championship run but a 24.20 success by a hard fought short head. Lad has now won four races on the bounce and we have a number of options with him now he seems to be getting a bit further.
