Kellys launches the new Rocket

Thomas Kelly's Bolt Ya Rocket made a superb UK debut last night at Nottingham. Very quickly into stride he showed some top class pace to take the Maiden Open in 30.34. Rocket did fade on the run for home however this had to be expected given this being his first race for months after being injured.

Student gives out a lesson

Exchange Student (pictured) clearly loved the step up to six bends last night at Monmore when she got up in the last stride to take the Ladbrokes.com 630 Division 2 by dead heat in 38.20. I'm confident thie bitch will win many races for us. Lively Mondays took the kennel bragging rights in the A1 when he beat kennel mate Walkaway Tyson in 28.34. Finally Jennas Pony continues to move up through the grades as he made it back to back wins when taking the A2 in 28.71 by 3 1/2 lengths.

Rocket flies in to Derby Quarter Final

Fifis Rocket simply flew into the WilliamHill.com Greyhound Derby Quarter Finals when producing a stunning 3rd round win in 28.80. Rocket burst traps in his customary fashion and built up a healthy lead, this time there was no catching him as he took the contest by 1 1/2 lengths.

The draw for 4th quarter final on Tuesday

1 Razldazl George
2 Jordansoilutions
3 Westmead Logan (m)
4 Rockview Head (m)
5 Cloheena Cash (w)
6 Fifis Rocket (w)

This will no doubt be the toughest ask for the dog despite his trap 6 draw. Two runs close together added to the fact his race is full of quality opposition will test the Rockets trapping to the maximum. Fingers crossed for another great night.

Friday Feeling

Four winners for us on Fridays card at Monmore. Ballymac Celia (pictured) stuck to her task well as she took the A3 in 28.86. Galtee Petal recorded a deserved success when she led from traps to take the A6 in 29.07. Direct Angie won his first race since December, the A8 success was in 29.04. Finally Fawns Fortune added another win to his CV when he took the S4 in 39.07.

Express is different gear

Frank Martin's Express Gear recorded his first UK win when running out a very impressive 8 length win in 28.35. The full brother to Blue Riband Winner Express Shuttle showed some breathtaking pace in the A3 contest and I'm sure Frank will have some great nights ahead with the dog.

Barntick Cove recorded her first win also when lead all the way in the A4 to win in 28.97.

Fatboyz team are red hot

Anthony Cameron's Fatboyz team are hitting top at the moment. Last night Fatboyz Slim recorded his second win on the bounce when taking the Corona Stayers Trophy at Nottingham over 680 metres in 42.40. This evening Fatboyz Diva also made it 2 wins in succession when taking the Owlerton Bookmakers Standard over 660 metres at Sheffied. Diva pinged from traps and led from start to finish to take the contest in 40.03.

Monday 23 May 2011

Proving a Point

Direct Point recorded his 4th career win this afternoon when taking the opening race at Monmore. Quickly away from traps and some great back straight pace enabled him to take contest by 1 length in 29.28.

Jason leads the treble

Head Iton Jason marked his return home to Monmore with an impressive 2 length win over the extended 684 metres. Jason had plenty of his plate early on in the race before forcing his way to the front to win in 41.74. Jennas Pony showed she is a stayer of good potential when she took the A3 in 28.81. She stormed off the last bend to win by 1 1/2 lengths. Finally Are We Dancers stepped up again to take a very tricky A2 in 28.62. With 2 wins from his last three starts he is one to still side with as he could well win again.

Dream far from over for Shuttle and Empire

We had to return from Wimbledon on Saturday with only Fifis Rocket remaining in the 2011 Greyhound Derby. Sadly Express Shuttle and Brittons Empire were both eliminated after disappointing runs. The dream is far from over for both dogs as both will be contentors in many of the big races of 2011.

Draw for the 3rd round

Heat 2

1 Buzz Doc
2 Westmead Maldini
3 Diesel Malc
4 Modern Man
5 Fifis Rocket (w)
6 Trevi You Go (w)

Saturday 21 May 2011

Speed Rocket

Fifis Rocket progressed to Round 3 of the Derby after taking the second qualifying spot in closing heat on Friday night at Wimbledon. Blasting out of traps in his customary fashion he led to near the line. He is clearly loving the circuit and we are all hoping he continues to fly. Now for tonight............fingers crossed

Friday Monmore Hatrick

Three winners for the team on Friday afternoon. Ballymac Away got the ball rolling when she took the A7 in 28.97. Kentori Girl put her early pace to good use when taking the S5 in 39.41. Last of all was Southern Dooey who was very impressive when making it 2 wins from just 4 starts. The 28.64 win by 3 1/2 lengths make her down as a bitch to follow.

Buzzard in the Skyline

Skyline Bella made her Monmore debut a winning when strutting her stuff when taking a trappy looking A6 by a length in 28.93. Our other winner on the evening came from Fatboyz Buzzard who was winning his first race which was an A4 in 28.81.

Can Crisp join us at Westview ?

Westview Kennels is proud to offer another an outstanding young puppy at a reasonable price. Catherines Crisp is only an Oct 2009 whelp she has only 2 races ran in her short career to date

In her very 1st race she ran at Clonmel she showed excellent early but was badly baulked at the 1st bend yet still managed to finish 2nd - in 29.61 - the winner of the race "Sauvage summer" has since gone on to record 28.80 for the 525 yards.

"Crisp" was then entered for a race at Irelands premier track - Shelbourne park - Having her 1st look at the track she once again she exceeded all expectations. Showing tremendous early pace she was never headed as she left her opponents trailing in her slipstream to win by 7 1/2 lengths in a top class time of 29.25.Being her 1st look at the track and only being an Oct whelp we are confident that she will improve event further from this.

"Crisp" is brilliantly bred as her Sire "Bruce Ali" was sold for £30,000 - he is by the legendary "Brett Lee" x "You Said So" - who produced "He Said So" - the Irish Derby winner and "Black Shaw" - Ante post English Derby Favourite - sold for £70,000 -

Her dam line is pretty special also as her dam "Catherines Figgy" - is the exact sam dam line as the "Cabra" line which has produced such greats here at Westview Kennels as "Cabra fly" - This means she is the same breeding as "Cabra Cool" - the Scottish derby winner.

"Catherines crisp" - was advertised on Greyhound data for £4,500 - but such are our connections we are able to exclusively offer a 30% discount to our owners on the above price. With her early pace she will be ideally suited to the English open race scene and is ideal for all the puppy open competitions.

Please call me ASAP top avoid disappointment.

One share remaining in Bandicoot

Only 1 share remains in Bandicoot Fionn. Neil Britton and Mick Talyor have joined Brian Gillespie. If you are interested in the final share please call tomorrow to avoid disappointment.

Monday 16 May 2011

The real Slim Shady please stand up..please stand up.....

Three great winners for the team this evening at Nottingham. Skyline Amber made it two wins on the bounce when taking the Stayers event over 730 metres in 45.74. Sandy Legend took Heat 3 of the Maiden 480 competition when recording 29.99 in a 4 1/2 length victory. Finally and really pleasing was the victory of Fatboyz Slim who romped to a 12 1/2 length win in the Maiden Stayers Final, 42.41. We are all hoping this will be the first of many win for him.

Mr Gillespie pounces first for Bandicoot

The first share of Bandicoot Fionn was snapped up this evening by Mr Gillespie. 3 shares rmain in this exciting unraced pup. This August 2009 pup is a repeat mating of Bandicoot Tipoki, the 2010 English Derby Winner. This lad trialed at Clonmel last weekand flew round in a rapid 28.80. I'm confident there will be loads more to come. Please call to avoid disappointment.

A Rise in grade for Cooladerry

Cooladerry Rise made his debut staying race a winning one when running out an impressive S2 1 1/2 length winner in 38.83 this afternoon. Rise now has 4 career wins on his card and I'm confident there will be many more over both 4 and 6 bends.

Pony & Des win at Monmore

Gertys Pony recorded her 4th career win last night when taking the evening S2 at Monmore last night. After pinging from traps and looking the likely winner, Pony had to dig deep on the turn for home to take the contest in 38.83. Our second and final winner of the eveing came care of Uncle Des who took the A3 in 28.65 by a short head.

Rocket is king of the sectionals

Fifis Rocket showed the rest of the Derby field what genuine early pace is when recording the fastest sectional of the second night of the heats. Rocket tired on the run for home but by that time safely had the second qualifying space in the bag,

Empire takes the Shuttle in Derby

We returned home from Wimbledon last night with both Brittons Emprire and Express Shuttle safely through to round 2. The heat money for Brittons Empire proved spot on as he showed the best early to take over from fast up Brer Hare (faded) at the turn. Express Shuttle, runner up in the Ladbrokes Puppy Derby at Monmore before landing the Betfair Blue Riband at Hall Green, is still getting used to Wimbledon and whilst railing well will need to improve from traps if he wants to stay in the competition. The 28.57 win certainly made a couple of the large bookmakers cut his price.

Kennels closed on Sunday

Can I remind all owners the kennels will be closed this Sunday. It is just a one off as the roads are closed due to a local fun run. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Friday 13 May 2011

Do you want another Bandicoot Tipoki ?

I am pleased to offer for sale Bandicoot Fionn. This August 2009 pup is a repeat mating of Bandicoot Tipoki, the 2010 English Derby Winner. This lad trialed at Clonmel this morning and flew round in a rapid 28.80. I'm confident there will be loads more to come. I'm going to syndicate this fellow so please call me if interested as I'm expecting interest to her very high.

Right on Pal

Drive on Pal (pictured) recorded his first career victory this afternoon when taking the A5 in 28.81 by 1 1/4 lengths. Homestead Speck showed her well being when making it back to back wins when taking the S3 in 38.90, staying on strongly again.

Romeo is A1

Fatboyz Romeo (pictured) proved to be our only winner on a competitive night of racing at Monmore on Thursday. Romeo was winning his 8th career race when running on very strong to take the A1 contest in 28.51.

Maireads Hawks head to Westview Kennels

I'm proud to announce a great new buy for the kennel called Maireads Hawk.

The One in all in Syndicate have purchased this well bred December 09 pup, who flew round Harolds Cross in a rapid 28.97 on debut.

Dollars denied at Hove

Ten Dollars More was a brave 5th in the Coral Regency Final at Hove on Tuesday. Also on the card Head Iton Jason was 4th after being badly baulked and Fatboyz Diva took the first race after the Sky coverage when taking the Mini Marathon over 740 metres in 44.27.

Wednesday 11 May 2011

Superstar to join Westview Kennels

Tomorrow I will be announcing a genuine superstar pup that will be joining Westview Kennels. This lad is the most expensive purchase ever made by myself as I'm very confident he will live up to the price tag.  Promising times....

Tuesday 10 May 2011

New partnerships

I pleased to announce a new partnership with Bearts of Stowbridge (Avocet Holdings). I have been using their Alchemy Eclipse which is a 100% natural wormer for a number of months and the dogs are running very well on it. I'd suggest any one to look up there website for more information.

Monday 9 May 2011

Lively time for Mondays

Lively Mondays recorded his second win on the bounce when recording a rapid 28.41 at Monmore this afternoon in the A2. His sesctional time of 4.30 is simply stunning. Who said I don't like Mondays.

Amber loves the trip south

After two unlucky runs on Sky Skyline Amber took Friday nights marathon race over 840 metres at Poole. The 2 1/2 length victory in 53.24 was a grand effort and just what she deserved. There will be plenty more opportunities for her in these type of races.

Saturday night dancing

Are We Dancers (pictured) recorded his 7th career win in the UK on Friday with an impressive 4 1/2 length win in 28.39. I have a feeling the grader won't give him many chances in the A3 grade. Walkaway Tyson continues to improve and it was great to see him take a trappy A2 in 28.49. If he keeps trapping like this he will be winning many more races.

Meldrums Open Race Stats Update

Friend of the kennel Peter Meldrum has kindly provided us with another useful insight to our open race team.

We have the second most winners in the country with 53 winners.
Those 53 wins have been from 243 races giving us a healthy strike rate of 21.8%.

The kennels have won £24,718 in prize money in 2011.

April was been the most successful month of the year to date with 20 wins from 70 races.

Monmore is our most successful track with 22 wins yet we have a 100% strike rate at Belle Vue. Our strike rate is very healthy at Hall Green (50%), Oxford 36%, and Poole 37%. Tracks to avoid my runners appear to be Swindon and Sheffied !

Many thanks Peter for your support.

Fifis takes Golden Crest Final

Fifis Rocket justified our confidence in winning the Dave Lawrence Golden Crest final at Poole on Friday night. The £3,000 decider saw the 4-5 favourite spring from the boxes and set up a winning lead by halfway. However, the hot opposition was closing in during the final stages but held on by half-a-length to beat a rallying Miss Crispys in 26.46. I'm am over the moon for owner Thomas Kelly who purchased Rocket for me to train.

Monmore Friday Double

Two winners on the afternoon to kick start the weekend. Our first winner was Homestead Speck took the S4 with an impressive staying run in 38.94. Ballymac Sun recorded his first win since february when taking the A6 in 28.89.

Dollars makes Regency Final but Jason denied

As forecast Blonde Fetch marched into Tuesday's £8,000 Coral Regency final as the dog to beat with an emphatic success in the first sem-final at Hove on Thursday night. Mark Wallis's charge broke well and settled the issue in a matter of strides - going on to score by 3 3/4L. In an uneventful race Rancey Beauty and our Ten Dollars More always held the qualifying positions behind the 41.26 winner.

The second eliminator of this Category One 695-metre stayers' competition promised to be more competitive and so it proved. Pat Rosney's Bower Hawk (5-2) produced another well-timed late run to beat Dean Childs' pairing of Droopys Start and 2009 champion Lorry's Options by one length and half-a-length in 41.39sec. Head Iton Jason, who led to the run-in missed out on a qualifying spot by a short head.

Draw for Tuesday's final (live on SkySports): 1 Droopys Start, 2 Rancey Beauty, 3 Blonde Fletch, 4 Lorrys Options, 5 Ten Dollars More (m), 6 Bower Hawk (m).

No luck in Stud Book Final

Trouble at the first corner cost both Wesmead Logan and Bolt their chance in the Greyhound Stud Book Final at Monmore on Thursday evening. We had to come home with just the one winner care of Southern Dooey who took the A3 in an impressive 28.56.

Wednesday 4 May 2011

Closing the deal

My main man in Ireland is close to securing a couple of superstars for the kennel. I can't say much at this stage however please keep your eyes on the blog over the next few days.

Derby Entries confirmed

Express Shuttle posted an impressive 28.67 whe leading all the way in a pre-derby work out around Wimbledon. Shuttle will be entered alongside Fifis Rocket and Brittons Empire.Official confirmation is awaited, but with a field of 150, it probably means the WilliamHill.com Derby first round will be over two nights, Friday and Saturday of next week. The draw is being made 1pm Sunday.

Big week ahead

Another mighty week ahead for our kennels. Westmead Bolt and Logan both contest the Greyhound Stud Book Final at Monmore tomorrow. I love nothing more than taking Finals at our home track. Down at Hove Head Iton Jason take their chance in the Coral Regency Semi Finals. I think Blond Fetch looks special and the one to beat. Friday we see us head to Poole with the hope Fifis Rocket can come away well from his favoured trap 6 in the Dave Lawrence Golden Crest over 450 metres. Joining him on the van to Poole will be Skyline Amber, Jennas Pony and Gagsys Classic.

Sunday 1 May 2011

Rocket sets Track Record at Poole

Fifis Rocket took his second track record from his last 3 starts when pinging from traps in the Dave Lawrence Golden Crest at Poole last night. The 26.30 success by 3 1/4 lengths an improvement of seven spots from the previous round. He also recorded a fastest-ever 4.13 sectional and is now 8-11 with local firm Jem Racing for Friday's decider.

Draw for Friday's £3,000 final (and betting from Jem Racing): 1 Zupjack (9-2), 2 Harrys Yer Man (10-1), 3 Miss Crispys (16-1), 4 Buzz Doc (9-2), 5 Elios Isis (m) (7-1), 6 Fifis Rocket (w) (8-11).

Red hot five at Monmore

On a night with the team in red hot form we returned home from Monmore with five winners. So Larry got the ball rolling when he appreciated the return to Monmore. Larry put in another convincing performance to take the Division 1 416 in 24.79.  Larry's win ratio continues to improve and this was his 6th career win in the UK. Another dog with a great strike rate is Tullna Rose who has won 4 of her 8 starts after taking the Division 1 Puppies in 28.57. The ultra consistent Bookem Lass took the evenings A2 with a hard fought victory in 28.66.  Walkaway Tyson is a dog still on the upgrade, he started his career in A5 yet last night took the Puppy Open Division 2 in 28.66. Finally I was overjoyed for the connections of Uncle Rico as he clinched his first win when taking the Division 2 480 in 28.84.
